Gay Marriage in Churches

I'm not really sure what the fuss is all about. Isn't it just changing the name of civil partnerships to marriage and legislating that no religious group is compelled to offer the service?

Seems to me like everyone wins all round.

I think the argument is that because the Church invented marriage then they can choose who gets to do it. And because they basically don't approve of homosexuals they don't want to let gay people in on the action. It's a primitive attitude really.

I could understand that argument, however as you dont need to get married in a church, ie registry or even humanist weddings, it falls down.

Im in favour of anything that exposes religious bigotry and stupidity.

I love the way they ignore their own history. The bible is full of multiple marriages and until recently marriage was more of a legal contract than a sacred rite.

I think Toynbee sums it up well by saying they should have the honesty to campaign to make homosexuality illegal again but know that ship has well sailed.

I can't get my head around wanting to get married in a church.

Like wanting the kkk to christen your non-white baby.

Don't want to be in any sexist, racist, homophobic club that would have me as a member.

I must admit Ive heard a few of the arguments on five live over the last few days and I cant really get my head around the exact argument of those against it.

I could understand a position if your starting position is being gay is wrong, but the ones I've listened too (probably lying) have said being gay is okay, civil contracts are ok, its just the marriage.

Has anyone nailed the crux of the argument?

I also add this for pure amusement anyway and as proof indeed that there is a God and he is indeed a piss taking fucker.

You may recall some months ago my young son joined nursery and his key worker had a terrible lisp. My concerns were that he would also struggle to speak properly and would "catch" this lisp. Well now he has moved into a different room and his new key worker is a very pleasant fellow who not only sounds like Graham Norton but also bats for the other team as well.

Of course not wishing to bring further wrath from our gracious Lord, I am of course very happy about this situation and have no concerns whatsoever. :)

Are you saying you don't want your son to catch gay?
