The first time I looked at the one In Cumbria the website described it as being in ‘the heart of the Lake District’. It’s not far away but it’s about 10 miles outside the national park, near Penrith and on completely the other side of the M6. So not in the Lake District at all. That level of blatant bullshitting completely put me off tbh.

I've just looked it up on the back of this comment. Whinfell Forest?! It's considerably nearer to the Pennines than the Lake District!

I was born in Kendal, and my home village is about 10 miles south of there - right next to J36. As such I've always thought it a bit of a stretch to say I'm from the Lake District, but I reckon I'm as close as 'The Heart of the Lake District' Center Parcs.

It's like estate agent speak. I remember seeing a house near us when we lived in Lewisham being marketed as "Greenwich borders"

Well my old high school (Seaton Burn) has rebranded itself as North Gosforth Academy. It’s not even in the same local authority as Gosforth

Wideopen seems to be fully rebranding as North Gosforth, and that's ridiculous enough, so to do the same for Seaton Burn is wild. Next stop Dudley and Burradon.

And good point, I get turned away from the Brunswick tip now, cos I've got a Wideopen address on my ID. Might change it to North Gosforth next time and see if that works any better.

the bit of peckham around bellenden road used to be rough but has since had the gentrification treatment. the local estate agents had a punt at rebranding it "the bellenden triangle"

I think the two housing estates next to West Moor / Camperdown (where the Miller and Carter is and the one over the road from there) were both marketed as East Gosforth.

I could just about understand the school calling themselves that if their catchment area included Great Park, say. But being in a different LA area I assume it doesn't, so

That local authority at its absolute craziest btw. Making people drive much further to recycle / dump rubbish. Thereby discouraging recycling and making fly tipping much more likely. Not that there’s any excuse for the latter but you know what I mean. My lass’s parents are the same. It’s just a two minute drive but they can’t use it

Yeah it's ridiculous. We have to go to the Tyne Tunnel tip instead. Tbf it's much better cos you can book slots and the Brunswick one is an absolute shitshow with queues down the street every time you turn up, but to just remove the option altogether is absolute nonsense.

There's no way you can rebrand Burradon. I'm from there and every time I go back (which isn't often these days) it looks a little bit more like the Meadow Well Estate. Unless you're gonna call it North Killingworth?

I went there too. 👋 Would be more accurate to call it South Cramlington Academy.

Just dump your stuff in Burradon, won't make any difference. Probably the best way to recycle it TBH, it'll get scavenged within a couple of days.

JK Rowling is funding lawsuits against trans accepting women organisations to force them to reject trans people.

So far she has successfully beaten the women's institute and the guides into submission, both noting that they didn't want to become trans exclusionary but that they cant fight billionaire money.

I doubt I have to convey what I think of this, across all levels of it.

I knew it was a Tory who had set it up, but this latest stuff I hadn't heard. Not a huge surprise though. LOADS of people use it for their political news though, which is GREAT.
