Like any sentient human* I do love TMS, but I've got to admit I find Agnew a bit of an insufferable bombastic prick

*by human I suppose I mean white middle-class English man of a certain age

I think he can be worse as a journalist than as a commentator.

Coincidentally, picked up his TMS Book/Autobiography at a charity bookstall in the supermarket the other day, for the princely sum of one whole English pound, hardback no less. Bargain.

Absolutely splendid

Agreed. He fuckin hates football supporters with a passion. He thinks anyone who attends a match is a hooloigan.  I think he may have issues with working class people in general...

He’s a proper product of the English public school system. But I think he’s pretty even-handed in the commentary box.

Agree on his commentary, but in my old twitter days I had to stop following him on there to avoid him destroying TMS for me, because he came across as a weapons grade twat.

England 12-man squad for first Ashes Test: Ben Stokes (c), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith (wk), Mark Wood.

Bashir to miss out?

Probably although Lyon has the most test wickets at Perth Stadium.

Yeah I think they'll go all pace, Lyon is pure class, there's no comparison really. I did see they thought there were some dry/dusty parts on the strip but I have little confidence Bashir would exploit them and he's a total rabbit with the bat, makes Panesar look like Bradman.

Archer and Atkinson probably.

i'd love to see our two quickest take the new ball if we bowl first. so much is made about how the first ball of the first innings sets the tone for the series

Just hope we bowl first, if we bat and lose an early wicket I feel it just causes a bow wave of momentum. Same old pommies etc. But supposedly doesn't the saying go that in Australia if you win the toss you bowl first everywhere but Perth !!!!!

I didn't realise Scotland were playing Australia? :cuppa:

I think Bashir will miss out too. Traditionally Adelaide and especially Sydney spin a bit later in the test. There hasn’t really been enough tests at the ground to get a proper idea of the what type of bowling it suits but it’s largely been dominated by pace I think. With Lyon being the outlier (but he’s good enough to take wickets anywhere with his variations. I think they named Bashir in the 12 to show he’s the first choice spinner / give him confidence because there’s also Jacks in the squad plus Ahmed in Australia with the Lions.

He’s not rattled though

I’m trying not figure out when I can actually get away with watching some cricket. I think I’ll do a few daft early mornings at the start & then Brisbane & Adelaide will be a bit kinder.

I can’t see many tests going the full five days anyway, two wobbly teams.

Still don’t expect anything down under but that’s as ingrained in the human consciousness as being afraid of poisonous spiders or something.
