They leave their own politics at the door and write in whatever direction their press baron owner directs them. It's ridiculous how much influence so few people have on so much of the public.

I think the UK are only 35/39th in the Press Freedoms ratings iirc.

Edit: 40th behind Slovenia and Lithuania.

There should be rules during election time for balanced coverage.

The press are being brutal over this. The Times, The Heil, The Torygraph, The Sun all coming out against the manifesto.

Another thing I don't get here - why? No one employed by those papers actually writing the content will be in the top 5% of earners. I appreciate they're paid to write utter bollocks as directed from on high, but they're actively undermining their own interests. At least the people reading what they write can claim to have been misled.

On the whole, the press will go with public option. Watch their tone change as the polls change.

I've had people tell me thinks like this in the past, and I suppose you never know. If true, it would suggest Gloom might have been right all along about the MSM not being some mouthpiece to establishment powers.

And £80k in London doesn't make you rich btw. Comfortable but not rich.

I think the top 5% paying more combined with no VAT or NI increases or tax rises for the poor, is spot on. A lot of Tory voters don't think that way though, the selfish twats.

If the plan is to introduce a 45% rate from 80 to 150 and then 50 above 150 then the extra is "reasonable" imo - someone on 100k would pay 1k a year more tax or 80pm. If you're on 100k and think £80 is unmissable then you haven't got your spending under control or you're just a cunt.

I don't quite understand why CT has done this either, but to be fair to him his issue with Labour was always that he didn't think the policies they had made financial sense.

What I don't quite understand is what appears to be convincing him that they now do. The theories they're justifying it with are the same ones we've put forward on here in the past as far as I can tell.

Wtactualf? Edit: looked bizarre on a phone. Like CTs train of thought.

I can't help thinking May's negative campaigning may be counterproductive. Yes, people don't connect or trust Corbyn. But fuck me, the stench coming from her makes me want to gag.

With Thatcher, you knew she was a cunt but had to admire her intellect and force of will power. With May, you just get the impression she is a useless cunt well out of her depth. The UK is in danger now both because of her toxic ideology and her incompetence. What a mess.

Agreed on this. Absolutely out of her depth, looks terrified. Do generally agree with a previous point you've made that there is simply a dearth of credible political leaders in Westminster at this point as well.

See this 'we'll go back to the 1970's' meme is being heavily pushed all over the place. But.....But nobody can remember the 1970's.

They sell the myth of the 70s as union ruined - even the three day week which was due to the oil crisis is sold as being due to the miners.

The 70s were ace anyway from my perspective. Choppers, ice cream vans, jumpers for goalposts, always sunny etc. Even the power cuts were fun. Bring it back I say.

Looks like a proper left wing manifesto from what we've seen so far. Nationalizing railways is something I would imagine a lot of people can get behind if reading comments sections about Southern Rail and others is anything to go by.

The spend for the Afghan and Iraq wars is coming up to 80 billion now yet austerity keeps on being the dominant theme at home.

I've ssid many times on here I would vote for this type of stuff, IF, I could be convinced it could be costed and wouldn't crash the economy. I'm waiting to see the costings next week and if convincing I'll vote for them.

Its not the "theories" that will convince me but the costings. I.E. they have said that next week there will be no doubt....

6 bill for NHS is coming from A

5 bill for education from B

Free tuition from C

etc etc.

if they start with "it's coming from finding savings, etc and the usual patter, then I won't buy it.

Re-energising the economy will cost money. At some point someone will have to spend the money. The history of late Capitalism is littered with its failure to provide real growth and spreading of wealth. It's teetering along on sovereign debt and artificial stimulus like QE and socialising cost while privatising profit. Back in the 80's the Globalists set about moving production to the far east and deconstrucitng Western economies and setting up tax avoidance. Since then it has just been a rota of lies and half truths. Govt of all sides have participated in this myth...New Labour just as much as the Tories.

Maybe, but I'm talking about a Labour Party convincing the public in 4 weeks that they can do the manifesto without finger in the wind stuff. If they win and can do all that for 5 years then they would have a better chance of more radical changes.

How on earth are they going to convince anyone when the entirety of the right wing press is lined up against them (largely to protect the interests of those who run them)?

You only need to look at a few Vox pops to realise the British public have no clue about politics. I bet about 1 out of 10 would even have heard of Quantum Easing, fractional reserve banking or the relationship between the money supply and inflation. All you can do with these gumbies is have a photogenic leader who is ready to lie his way to power. :D

1977 was the time at which inequality in the UK was at its least. But the the seventies were absolutely terrible, obvs
