A great illustration of how the game has moved on, grab your copy of Shoot in the 70's/80's and a picture of the first team staff would have been the players, manager, first team coach, the trainer and maybe the kit man, today it's an army !!

And only about 16 players

I love the stat that Villa won the title in 1980/81 using just 14 players. Inconceivable from today's perspective.

Only one sub allowed then too which I don’t think changed until the end of the 80s.

87/88 was the first season of 2 subs.

Hopkinson's answer when he was asked about the stadium was basically "I don't know" according to this.

The quotes per Waugh were along the lines of "it's a massive and complex project, biggest in the clubs history, so I can't give any definitive answer or set a deadline for that answer, as I don't want to set false expectations, but we are working hard on it every single day".

I really, REALLY, don't get the furore about a new stadium, it'll happen when it happens and it'll be anounced when the plans/funding etc. is ready. Totally chilled about it here.

Yeah, we'd like the extra reveue it'd bring (in about 5 years if it was announced tomorrow), I'd rather have increased revenue near term announcements from additional sponsorships as a more pressing matter tbh.

I think they're taking an awful long time tbh. They haven't even made a decision yet, never mind set a project in motion.

And, like it or not, people see the stadium as indicative of the commitment of PIF to the club, and the continued non-decision doesn't look or feel great.

There is a project in motion, they're doing evaluations/due dilligence etc etc, we had PIF's infrastructure blokey added to the board for example.

I remember the days when all that mattered were the results on the pitch and under current ownership they've never been better (well not since the 1950's) seeking some ethereal sense of commitment from the ownership is daft. Even if/when they cough up for a new stadium it means little in terms of commitment, just means they're increasing the value of their assett should they want to cash in.

I personally suspect part of a delay is them looking for a development partner btw.

I mean a post-decision project. The feasibility studies have long been completed.

I totally get people wanting to know and wanting them to crack on with it. I watched some video of the Hill Dickinson stadium, and it looks fucking class, outside and in, and I want us to get on with building a new super stadium and to have a chance to watch a match in it before I'm 60.

Yeah I get that, but the way some go on is beyond me tbh.

I think it's more than just the prestige and excitement of a new stadium though now isnt't it with PSR. We need the bigger income streams, sponsorships etc to be able to invest more in the squad etc etc. That's the part that's most frustrating for me about the delays in the stadium and new training ground. All linked to added revenue in the stinking modern world of PSR football or whatever they are calling it these days.

The extra revenue will be great but most of us on here would like the opportunity to buy a season ticket, or just have more success getting to the game than the current ballot system allows, before we die. At this rate, death might come first

A new stadium is the only chance I'll get to actually watch us play football regularly without having to beg, borrow and steal from mates or hit refresh on the website 4000 times a day. I completely get why people are impatient. This carrot has been dangled for 3 years now

Exactly. Dead frustrating last night, and arguably this is the worst version of Spurs we've seen in a while, but nevertheless...

I'm still fizzing this morning we lost yet more points at the death, I'm sorry. Even got a Liverpool penalty at the end and still fucked it. Yes we should look a lot better when we've Wissa as a viable option up front but you could spin it and say wtf are we going to do if our young full backs get injured need a rest?

On the full backs point, this is where we have to see Eddie rotate.

The squad absolutely should have enough to dispatch Burnley without them both.

So perhaps

Murphy Schar Burn Murphy

Or burn moves to LB (shudders) and Thiaw stays in.

I could see this line up Saturday

Ramsdale

J Murphy

Thiaw

Schar

Burn

Bruno

Willock

Ramsey

Elanga

Gordon

Woltemade

Barnes, Hall, Tino, Joelinton & Tonali (if fit) to come on. Gordon moving up top late on.
