My concern is less about him going, and more about us not having anything waiting in the wings. As Downie says we've got Osula, and that's it. It's not enough for standard PL season, let alone one with a CL campaign in the mix.

If we get suitable replacements before he signs any deal with another club then it's less of an issue for me, but I'm concerned we won't do that and that is the reason I'd want to retain him.

Shearer is right - no player is bigger than the club.

What frustrates me about this is we should have a list of 10+ players for each position that we should be ready to move on.

It shouldn't be as basic, and I doubt that it is, as we tried for Etikite and that Benjamin bloke and now we are out of ideas.

It feels like we really are lacking once we go above Howe.

Calm Down Chill Out GIF by Zypto

It's not just the likelihood of losing Isak. It's the fact that we're very rich, with a great manager and some excellent players but the deck is so rigged we've got little to no chance of competing for a title or anything like that.

We (and other teams like us) can't afford to get a transfer wrong, the top 6 can make fuck up after fuck up and it doesn't matter.

We need to sign better players to win things. We need grow our SCR envelope to sign better players. We need to increase our commercial revenue (at fair market value) to grow our SCR envelope. To do that we need to attract commercial partners with our performances and results on the pitch and by winning things. To do that we need better players.

After all that they came up with £110m and just left it at that? The absolute cunts.

This is the lad who was saying they wouldn't bid unless they had been given an indication it would be accepted. Liverpool will be telling him to say this so Isak comes back full of hell.

That just doesn't make any sense.

It is portrayed that our response is the issue here.

No matter what anyone thinks about the full situation, PIF own that asset and Liverpool have to persuade them to sell him to them.

If true, I like this ballsy approach from PIF.  Everyone else does this to us.

I genuinely don't think he will go unless we have a replacement lined up - which is proving difficult.

If he doesn't go then he'll have to sack his agent and kiss some mega arse.

It's just gonna take a bit longer. That's all. It's not impossible, it's just impossible to do quickly.

Isak is gone - the rest is theatre.

Seems that way but it'll play out for weeks and it will be really interesting if the player comes back to training because he isn't being sold before the dippers game.

I wonder if this will prompt movement between us and Leipzig for Sesko. If we can't accept a bid for Isak without a replacement, either we firm ip interest in a replacement now, or we are definitely just pulling the shutters down to Liverpool.

Aye, sounds to me like we haven’t even pretended to consider the bid and have gone back with a straight ‘he’s not for sale’.

And from what I heard it was £55m downpayment with the rest paid 12 months from now.

I am not on the same page with a lot of people with this one.

I just don't think Isak leaving is going to be the big deal most people think.

He has really good stats. He is arguably one of the best strikers in the world. He has also played a big part in our first silverware.

However, I also think he goes missing for long spells of both parts of a game and games in general. He seems to miss a lot of really straightforward opportunities but then scores some screamers and all is forgotten.

I think there is every chance that he does a Torres and goes for the big move to never make it to the same standards.

I do think he will do well at Liverpool as he is going to have a lot of service put into him.

I think we can replace him and go onto the next levels.

A lot of his success has come off the backs of Gordon, Murphy and Joelinton doing a lot of the donkey work.

Just posturing from Liverpool. They want Isak and his agent to force the issue now

We’re already a CL club and have a player who has just had a British transfer breaking bid for him. We need to be pushing the limits of the fair market value on sponsorship deals and get some new training ground and training gear deals done ASAP.

Yeah the "regarded as futile unless Newcastle change their stance." paints us as an obstacle to progress, rather than someone protecting their asset.

He’s already refused to play and gone AWOL, short of driving himself to the Liverpool training ground there isn’t a lot more he can do to escalate it.

Been out for a while so haven't read all the posts but what a spoiled cunt Isak has turned out to be if reports are true. It's fine wanting to go to for what you feel is a bigger opportunity, but acting the cunt after the status the club and the fans have given him is really poor form. He'll have a hard time reconnecting with the players and the fans of the club tell Liverpool to sod off unconditionally.

The one thing that is of no concern to us is money up front.  The flip side of that is, that it probably is a concern to most other clubs.  So again we are in the position to tell them to go and fuck their wall pushing cunt selves right up their own arses.

Exactly where I'm at now.  I still think we can have a bright future, but any thoughts of us winning the league have completely left me now.  Challenging for Europe and the good runs in the cup was a dream I couldn't see happening five years ago so it's far from the end of the world, but it's a bit of a kick in the stots after what we were promised.
