"Do you want the good news or the bad news?"

"Go on then, give me the bad news first."

"You've lost the captain's armband and Tino is starting against Southampton and Bournemouth."

"Not too happy about that to be quite fucking honest with you."

"Ok, now give me the good news!"

"You're team mate and fellow RB Tino has been called up for England! Fantastic news, eh?"

Came through Man Utd youth set up and fucked off to Lille. That's the only reason I can think of he gets in - because he once wore a Man Utd shirt.

So I asked my mate who is a knee surgeon about Tino. My mate has operated on several elite athletes including a few Prem footballers. I asked what length of time he would be expected to be out his reply

Haha you know I can't tell you that! All depends really on the grade. An isolated gd 1 injury will heal, but players can have residual pain when trying to swerve a ball with instep for around 3-6 months. I would still think League One up you're looking at 8-12 weeks being realistic. If I was a betting man I would say 12 is the more sensible time length. Probably 4-6 weeks oh phys and rehab without the ball then gentle build up with ball before group work.

Is it just me or does it feel every year the seasons outcome is more and more about injuries and avoiding them?

Thinking back to Keegan times, didn't we have a smaller squad who didn't get injured as much? Maybe it's just my mind playing tricks on me. Or more likely the demands of the game are so much greater now.

Also, I cant help wincing when I see knee slides. Surely thats a risk, even if a small one.

Keegan’s team wouldn’t be able to keep up with the pace of the modern game. They’re more prone to injury now because of the increased intensity

Aye, Beresford, Barton, Howey etc would have been fucked after 30mins playing the pace we play at these days. Tonali might be the fittest player I've ever seen at the club. He did another full pitch sprint after 90mins on Wednesday the mad bastard!
