Starting to get a wee bit concerned that Isak is made of glass mind.

He's fine man, he's had dodgy knees all season and he's played anyway. He was fine last season after his thigh injury. Just need to make sure he gets fully fit and hope his injury isn't too bad.

Groin recurrence for Isak apparently based on Eddie's comments. Doesn't sound good.

Well we can't say we didn't give them a game. They had the rub first half, we deserved to get something from it. Wilson short of opportunities. I'd have liked to have seen us test the keeper a bit more but credit to their defence. Hopefully get a better referee and turn them over at their place.

Evidently (per Sir Eddie) Anderson’s also out for a few weeks with back problem.

Getting a bit thin

Has anyone checked in on our semi amphibious neighbours to the south to make sure they are okay after Tonali played a game before his suspension is even official?

Think our final ball was “off” simply because their defensive positioning was top notch.

Best team we’ve played for a long time and we weren’t outclassed by any means, it’s disappointing but all good.

Man City and Arsenal are better sides, Man City clearly. They were well organised in defense and we lacked bite, still we had three or four clear cut chances that on another night could have gone in. They too had three or four clear cut chances which is what I'm more worried about as our central midfield didn't cover the spaces and players that they should have.

I remember reading they've lost 5 out of the last 7 away in Europe or something like that.

They were very good on the day without a doubt but it's not like we faced Real Madrid at their best.

Absolutely no need to dwell too much on the defeat. Take it as part of the learning process, the evolution and move on. We're very much in the mix, 3 games to go. These lads will bounce back and get another result or two.

Dortmund haven't lost a league game since April 1st (16 matches ago). Real Madrid have lost 5 league games in the same period

The only point I was trying to make is that whilst they are obviously a quality side there are far more successful ones in recent Champions League seasons. I don't think that can be debated really?

I'm not saying it should distract from the fact that the team has given a great account of themselves over the first 3 games. But there's tougher European opposition to come if we make it through. Which is why all of this, even tonight's defeat, is an important part of the evolution as we look to become regulars at this stage.

Just gota remember to enjoy all of it. We just played freaking Dortmund at St James' in the champions league. It's been 2 years since Steve Bruce was manager and we were diving headfirst into the championship

Disappointing, thought we looked a bit off the pace and got unlucky with the Wilson and Gordon chances. Not sure what game the referee was watching mind, what a fucking disaster he was.

Joelinton didn’t look fit, Isak was seemingly rushed back too quickly (not for the first time). Trippier was off the boil especially compared to his recent performances.

Dortmund are a very good side, and showed a lot of experience throughout imo. Hopefully Murphy and Isak aren’t badly hurt.

Thought this was a bit of a come down after the ridiculous highs of previous weeks but even then, we were massively unlucky not to score in the second half. They’ve been the best side we’ve played so far tbf to them, no idea what the Dortmund fans are thinking if they think they’re shite

Losing Isak early doors seemed to throw us off a bit so let’s hope he’s ok but Wilson struggled a bit against their centre halves who were tremendous. Albeit they got away with some dodgy tackles by a ref who seemed desperate to show who was gaffer in a game that really didn’t justify it. Especially when he was misjudging blatant fouls as dives or slips.

Group is wide open now but a Milan loss next time out and a result for us puts us right where we need to be

There's been some shite written in the papers overnight man. "Howe taught a lesson", "reality check for mags", "toon come crashing down"

We had more possession than them and the same number of shots. We hit the cross bar twice, missed a one on one and could have had a penalty. And that's after losing two players to injury.

We were never going to walk all over Dortmund. They lost the league on the last day of last season. We more than held our own against them and will give them a good game in the return leg.

You just have to read some on here mind.  The way some went on you would have thought we got schooled 4-0

We probably need to beat Dortmund away to finish top 2 cos of the head-to-head rule. Not sure we can do that.

But dropping into the EL which we could feasibly win (and thereby secure CL next season) wouldn't be the worst thing either. That's what happens for third, doesn't it?

There seems to be wild fury on social media that the atmosphere wasn’t as good for a 0-1 home defeat than it was for a 4-1 home victory. Which I find a bit bizarre tbh :cuppa:

For a good hour Dortmund prevented us from setting our normal tempo, we didn’t help ourselves mind with some sloppy passing in midfield. First half Can was killing us with those long balls from deep which by passed midfield and they were straight on to our back 4 and should’ve scored before he got injured, that didn’t matter a great deal because after he went off they fuckin scored anyway

Issak was maybe brought back too early, Wilson should’ve scored but in general Hummels knew far too much for him. Crafty old European foxes came with a decent game plan to make us play at their slower pace and it mostly worked a treat for them even with our glut of missed chances (that old chestnut) and woodwork scraping.

Group appears to be wide open but we’ve only one home game left. Difficult to imagine getting a win in either Germany or France. Might be Europa for us if Milan don’t pull their socks up..

After we qualified for the CL my feeling at the time was coming third in the group and entering the EL would be pretty much ideal.

Solid CL experience plus the extra cash that goes with it only to enter a competition we are good enough to win.

I’d just like to take the opportunity of the half-time break to say that if we do lose tonight, can we all remember to give @Dr Gloom absolute fucking pelters and banish him from attendance, as it will obviously be all his fault, the shandy drinking la la.

Been to two games this season and we lost both of them. Looks like I might have to avoid going to the match again this season for the greater good ☹️
