Ah the response to this should be interesting, I may have to adjust my tin foil hat and get comfortable.

Socialism leads to Communism - which has a worryingly high body count.

Here, read this. It explains it all for the hard of thinking…I mean you could’ve googled it yourself. Every single zoomer that I’ve come across who subscribes to the sort of nonsense you’re obviously partial to has told me Hitler was a Socialist because he was in the National Socialist Party, every single one of them

(S)he thinks Tony Blair and Hitler are both communists man. I mean, good luck with the offer of free education, but you'd have better luck explaining integral calculus to this.

Got an NHS one somewhere, 20 years service so should be worth something, but I moved house at the same time I moved jobs and I've lost contact with it. Guess I'll need to contact the trust. I'm paying in a fair whack currently as its matched by my work. After 3 years, it's worth less than I've put in. I would be better off with cash in a shoebox.

Im not particularly savvy with pensions. Been paying into my NHS pension for 18 years. Currently get a lease car through work that knocks me into a lower pension bracket. When the lease ends in December I'll be back to paying the best part of £200 more a month in pension contributions.

Part of me thinks "get another lease car, you might be dead by 68", where another part of me thinks I'm knacking my final pension.

But that's not likely for a straight edge soldier such as yourself, and your family still benefit. My advice would be to maximise your pension whilst in the NHS as it really is still the best going. Just get a more functional, cheaper car or bin off your lethal motorbike hobby and make sure you get that pension. 👍

Choosing a car lease payment over your pension is OK if you're in your 20s. I mean it's still wrong, but it's understandable.

At your age, @Kid Dynamite, it's pension all the way I'm afraid.

Further to this, when do all the all men of TT think they are going to be able/afford to retire?

I've resigned myself to it not happening before 70 if I live that long/can continue to find employment.

Well I can't draw my pension until I'm 68. But if I can get the mortgage paid off by 60, and don't have a wedding/university to fund for the bairn, I'm hoping to go part time for the final 8 years.

I'm on a career average pension and I should be at the top of a band 8C in a few years so hoping I can afford the pension hit.

This is tempting on salary sacrifice. It will hammer my pension, but a brand new, taxed, insured, serviced car with free repairs and breakdown cover for £289pm is hard to beat. Particularly as I get free charging at work (for now)

Unfortunately the 150m passed me by so back to the grind on Monday. 🥺

Probably another 4 or 5 years. Not sure the wife is looking forward to seeing more of me. 🙂

Honestly, the best thing to do is to see a financial advisor. They'll do a "financial health" type review and make sure you've got sensible life/illness insurance in place to look after your family if anything happens to you.

But then they'll go through current retirement plans (hopes!) and tell you whether a) you're on track or b) you need to do x, y and z to get there.

It doesn't cost you anything cos they make their money from commissions on, for example, you taking out the insurances that they recommend you to. But they'll go through and show you how your pension would kick in post retirement and what level of lifestyle it would support and for how long etc.

It just means you're informed - it might be that they tell you that you're set fair and you can get whatever car you like, but at least you know.

I've got a mate who does all this shit for me if you were ever interested and didnt know where to go. My advice is get all the insurances in place when you're younger and definitely BEFORE you've got a pacemaker.

It doesn't matter how much I explain that my pacemaker cured my issue and I'm not at any risk, they have a box that they tick that says pacemaker and your premiums go WILD.

When I will the 200m next week, you can either have 100k or a job, if you want?

Genuinely thought you were retired. I'm going to an old colleagues retirement leaving do next month. He's 58, full NHS pension, jammy bastard. I want to wind down by 60, probably go part time if I can. Mortgage should be just about paid off by then and obviously I hope not, but good chance of inheritance.

I feel sorry for younger people. Everything is just getting worse, including work conditions and housing. A lot of people will end up dying before they can retire.

Might do thanks. I've got a £300k life insurance policy to cover the term of the mortgage. So if I peg it before 60 the house will be paid off and the family will have a chunk left over. If I die after 60 then they will at least be mortgage free
