I agree with that. I barely even look at these days. Owen never *wanted* to play for us anyway despite getting paid handsomely. I'm half wondering if the decline in his football ability is actually down to a complete lack of effort or the injuries.

thats a VERY sweeping statement. most yanks i've met are actually quite polite and intelligent. maybe i've just met the nice ones... Even the polite and intelligent ones can be pretty stupid. We were walking back from a restaurant along the rue de Rivoli the other week with a very very senior colleague from NY. "Oh look" he exclaimed, pointing at the cobbled street, "they've made it look old". I excused him on accout of his boffin-ness. I'm dealing with an American at the moment, not sure why he needs to talk so loudly on the phone. Because he is an American. Why do all Americans describe how they are feeling at every opportunity?

You get respect by doing things that gain respect, not by some arbitrary position (although admittedly many people in such positions do believe it is their "right"). He had about 100 ways to calm that situation down, he chose to bellow at the woman and shove her (which was about the best way to inflame it without actually just shooting her). In the end he ended up repeatedly tasering a 72 year old woman half his size for having a sharp tongue, that's a shocking ( ) failure in any terms. Fair enough. Each to their own.

Maybe he's taken 20k a week. I was wondering to myself what it would do for team spirit if the new manager made a rule that he and every player in the squad would get the same base pay....say £15k a week...and all other pay was made up of bonus payments.....but everyone is on the same bonus structure (per goal, clean sheet, win, draw appearance) all clearly stated. Never happen like, but it's more workable in the championship than the premier league. Andt if anything, it would be nice to stop the fans attacking players for what they earn, rather than how they perform. Been saying that for years - once you get to a certain figure (probably 20k pw imo) it's all just a pissing contest rather than the actual money from the player's pov. I'd like to see the club provide houses and maybe cars and then pay them all 5k pw (iused to say 1k but inflation is a bitch) but then I'd allow "ridiculous" bonus payments - say 1m each for promotion - as well as the other basics as you suggest. I see what you are getting at but the money should be going to the performers we pay to watch rather than the fat cats in the boardrooom.

I cancelled on Friday. Apparently they rang me tonight when i was out. Most likely on their knees begging me to come back.

Choke. Not sure what to make of it. Im a big fan of Chuck Palanhuik so im sure the book would have been much better. It just didnt seem to flow although the quirkiness was there. Rockwell was class as ever and Kelly MacDonald (from Trainspotting) and Angelica Houston put in some good performances.
