The asset stripping continues....

Apparently the clincher of the deal was the Slazenger tennis racket, the Dunlop putter and the Lonsdale trainers that Ashley agreed to throw in.

EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle plummet to new depths as O'Leary turns down manager's job Just when Newcastle fans thought they had suffered enough, the good ship St James' hit rock bottom on Wednesday night. After a day of fresh farce, it was revealed that David O'Leary rejected the chance to become manager on a two-year contract, despite spending the past three years out of the game. The job's a handful: David O'Leary declined an offer to be Newcastle manager Hours earlier Joe Kinnear, who stepped down last February needing a heart bypass operation, confirmed he too had been offered a return to the same post with the same length of deal a fortnight ago but was unable to take it up immediately. O'Leary, the former Leeds and Aston Villa boss, is understood to have passed on what many would consider a poisoned chalice because it was stressed to him that Newcastle might soon be sold. There has been little sign of that recently but as confusion reigns at St James' Park, Tyneside businessman Barry Moat has emerged as the preferred bidder of brokers Seymour Pierce. Moat is close to Alan Shearer and was chairman of the Newcastle legend's testimonial committee, meaning moves for Kinnear and O'Leary are unlikely to have come at his behest. Moat's involvement with what is said to be an American consortium would surely see Shearer re-instated as boss, and with Ashley having set an informal deadline of Friday, the promise of better news to appease fans persists. With their season kicking off at fellow relegated side West Brom on Saturday, Ashley and his managing director, Derek Llambias, are still insisting the club is for sale. However, billionaire Ashley has not ruled out staying if his £100million asking price is not met. Shearer waits for the call to return as manager, three months after his last meeting with Ashley, but he looks destined to return to the Match of the Day studio for the BBC's first televised Football League game this Saturday. Newcastle fans, who vented their frustration in a fans' forum with the BBC last night, will be hoping Ashley can secure a sale sooner rather than later, especially if the new owners offer Shearer the manager's job. Ashley is hoping to sell several players before the weekend, with Tottenham believed to be prepared to make an improved offer for French defender Sebastien Bassong after a £10m bid was turned down this week. Aston Villa want Senegal defender Habib Beye, and Wolves are chasing midfielder Nicky Butt. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...l#ixzz0NNoMnAHC

The Sun: When the Moat comes in for Toon By ANDREW DILLON Published: Today A NEWCASTLE tycoon is poised to save the Toon - and bring back Alan Shearer as boss. The Sun can reveal businessman Barry Moat is the new frontrunner in a £100million buy-out from Mike Ashley. And his first task will be to install Geordie legend Shearer as permanent manager. Moat was chairman of Big Al's testimonial committee three years ago and the pair remain close. He also has a plush executive box at St James' Park. A City source last night confirmed: "Barry is Newcastle's best hope of salvation. "Talks are well advanced, although nothing is signed yet. "He's a Newcastle fan through and through. He loves the club and has been devastated by what's happened. "He'll do everything he can to make this deal happen." Newcastle fans are desperate for a local man to ride to their rescue after the nightmare of owner Ashley's disastrous reign. Shearer went public in June and declared the club needed a northerner to repair the carnage left behind by Ashley's 'Cockney Mafia' of Dennis Wise, Derek Llambias and Tony Jimenez. Moat invested substantial sums into the club's academy, saying: "As a lifelong Newcastle fan, I am delighted to support the club's new initiatives of investing in the academy and enabling more young fans in the region to see their heroes play. "It's vital for a club like Newcastle to make sure it recruits the best young footballers at an early age and encourages them to develop their full potential." Moat, founder and director of workplace retail giant Premier Direct, renewed his executive box at the club for five seasons in 2008. Shearer is in a no-man's land, with Ashley reluctant to re-appoint him as Newcastle boss until a new owner is found. Despite his failure to save the club from relegation to the Championship, Shearer is far and away the fans' favourite.

http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsD...1320249,00.html Barry Backing Board's Blueprint NEWCASTLE United's determination to capture the next generation of Alan Shearers - and look after its young fans - has been given a major endorsement by the club's corporate supporters. Leading local businessman Barry Moat is so impressed with owner Mike Ashley's blueprint for the future that he has already committed to renewing his executive box at St. James' Park for a further five years. United will reap increased revenues from executive boxes and corporate hospitality packages sold in two and five-year packages from the 2008/09 season onwards. And the Club will use the extra finance to further develop its Academy infrastructure and take every step to ensure the best local youngsters aren't missed, so avoiding past mistakes when talent such as Alan Shearer and Michael Carrick were missed. The monies generated from corporate sales will help the Club expand the Family Enclosure at St. James' Park to almost treble its previous size. The new Family Enclosure - where season ticket prices have been cut by £50 to just £300 for adults and by £30 to only £100 for children - will be situated on Level 7 of the Milburn Stand. Those corporate fans like Mr Moat who have renewed for 2008/09 will have their names added to a new Family Enclosure 'Roll of Honour' to acknowledge the support they have given the Club. Mr Moat said: "As a lifelong Newcastle United fan I am delighted to support the Club's new initiatives of investing in the Academy and enabling more young fans in the region to see their heroes play. "Hopefully some of those young fans will be the heroes of tomorrow. "It's vital for a club like Newcastle United to make sure it recruits the best young footballers at an early age and encourages them to develop their full potential. "Knowing that I can help the Academy as well as projects like the increased Family Enclosure is a huge incentive to continue backing the Club and I hope others will feel the same." United vice-chairman Derek Llambias added: "It's fantastic that people like Barry have shown their backing for the direction the Club is taking by signing a five-year corporate contract. "Newcastle United is eager to develop the stars of the future in the north east and, just as importantly, keep St. James' Park open to the young fans too."
