  1. It would be a decent investment if Erik Prince's [of BlackWater fame, and owner of] henchmen dropped Ashley a quote pertaining to their protective services, via email.
  2. Definitely. Without getting into specifics [ie. mitigating factors behind the team morale's current state, our marquee/best players' probably questioning their respective career progression] as it's bloody obvious, but the January window is the ideal time to strike for any potential suitors currently eyeing the cream of our playing list. Carroll [more mobile & agile than Crouch with a better engine as well] would be the final piece of their current jigsaw. With their depth of creative talent he's that pillar of strength they need in the final 1/3. Based on his current rate of improvement Rednapp would be able to build a consistently qualifying Champions League team around this guy for a decade. A serious move by Spurs is on the cards come January imo.
  3. Our club [under this man's ownership] equals Lilywhites Mach 2. Cheap & tacky operator hiding behind the repute of a boutique establishement/address, with the tradition/class to match it's high customer flow. But ultimately floods the establisment with inferior/cheap stock, damaging the brand and the foundation built by it's previous & immediate custodians. Whelan has been spot on in everything previously said about this bloke ie. stripping a proud club [or 'institution' for better words, or a case of editorial inferrence on my part] of it's dignity.
  4. England's bid suffered the same fate as Australia's. Most of the brown paper bag tactics [bribes] were carried out early on re: the first round of voting. Russia & Qatar's two biggest threats [Eng & Aust] were taken out early by the swing vote, or those that were not aligned with the winning parties respective voting blocs from the get-go. And when China eventually throw it's hat into the ring it will be a waste of time having a crack at it.
  5. It was shortly after Allardyces's departure, in one of his few offerings to the press [and supporters] Ashley put forward his intention that he would be alot more hands-on in the day-to-day running of the club.
  6. "Dread": B-grade horror flick, featuring that 'Jasper' bloke from the Twilight series. Surprisingly good, given that a healthy percentage of previous Clive Barker adaptions have been shit. 3.5 out of 5. "Centurion": Enjoyable slash & hack affair, concerning the fate [according to myth] of Rome's missing Ninth Legion. 3.5 out of 5.
  7. Interesting to see how our top order fares against Aussie quick, Ryan Harris. He swings it, at speeds of 145kms per hr - a genuine quick with movement through the air. The ingredients all the top quickies from different eras asll shared. With the exception of the out-of-form Johnson, the Aussie pace attack is pretty much medium pace and they bowl stump-to-stump - it's a bit one dimensional. They otherwise need alot of help from the pitch, something they didn't receive in the 1st test [ie. 2nd innings].
  8. Repeat knee injuries buggered him. Was very good for the Mackems early on, when fit.
  9. Michie Stadium: West Point, New York. Hard to top this venue, in terms of it's scenic beauty. The Upper decks [on the main stand] overlook the Hudson River which lies furthest in the background.
  10. Chivas' [Mexico] volcano inspired stadium.
  11. [ Never been a fan of the Del Alpi, at least from what you see on television - the distance between the pitch and the doesn't help. Sometimes the television experience [as to what the cameras can actually pick up, without reverting to pan shots between play] can be a harsh judge on a stadiums atmosphere, or lack of to put it better. Juve's new stadium [the bottom pic], with a capacity of just over 40k. I think they move in there next season. Looks alot more intimate, or football friendly. And i think they've got the capacity just right, as i've seen alot of empty sections in the upper tiers when i've seen them on the television, although i've never watched the Turin derby.
  12. That wasn't it, he failed his medical man, and we got Ginola instead. Good call though. In hindsight was quite pleased we missed out on Neil Ruddock who only had one good season at the dippers before he turned in to a right fat bastard. Plus what he did to Peter .......... and had the cheek to go to the press claiming the move failed to materialize because he didn't like the city, as Meenzer implied.
  13. It was a good goal, from a teamplay point of view. Normally Alex [and his predecessors at the centrehalve position, same goes for other 'football playing' sides], a skillful & powerful footballer in his own right would have tried to turn the zonal-defending forward inside-out before playing his way out of trouble. The forced option/back-pass Alex pays tribute to the presence Carroll provides when defending from the front [physical presence both in terms of power & his level of agility for a big man, and his ever improved finishing]. Offers a different threat to Bellamy who could shut down an exchange of passing just with his pure pace - it was offensive that Martins [with his physical attributes] rarely displayed the same workrate. Whereas Carroll is more formidable physical match [a direct one-on-one match-up] for playmaking centrehalves whose tendancy is to bring it out form the back.
  14. Autzen Stadium in Oregon: the one venue i would like go to, if i ever head to the North West. Smaller seating capacity than some of the larger venues [i've heard it's nigh on impossible to get a seat, if you're a visitor to the region, even during a so-so season for the Ducks] but arguably the loudest in the nation.
  15. I've visited a few college football venues, while travelling around the States a few years back. Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida - home of Florida State. Beautiful external architecture, a removal from the modern-day steel, concrete & glass laden NFL counterparts.
  16. Probably the only NFL stadium that translates well to our code tbh.
  17. Dortmund's Westfalenstadion: not many more intimidating sights than it's South Stand. It's deep, it's elevated as a single tier stand, and it's non-seated. A horror setting for opposition keepers & their defensive rearguards when the masses are in full voice behind them.
