  1. One of the first women [and arguably the most famous at the time] in the United States to die of AIDS in the mid 1980's, Supermodel: Gia Carangi.
  2. Sad indeed. Cos the polar bear has climbed up onto that floating bit of ice after a swim? It's not like that's where he lives and it's melted around him I'm pretty sure. Probably a brief respite, during a bloody long swim to find a new hunting ground during the polar-cap melt season. You do know that fishermen [and scientists who are studying their seasonal movements etc] are finding record numbers of drowned polar bears due to the above [global warming and the decreasing area of the ice cap regions], and how it's affecting the migrational distances they have to cover during the above mentioned Summer. How far back do these 'drowned polar bear' figures go? I'm sure some internet troll can drag up the figures The point i made relates more to a wildlife a doco i saw a couple of years ago, where the amount of drowned polar bears being fished out of the water with gaffer hooks [some had been previously tagged with tracking devices] was on an alarming increase going, that's before you take into account the actual amount recovered/those that haven't ended being a snack for opportunistic predators.
  3. Just watched a documentary on him. Thought he was one hell of a man. Had everything you could ever have in one person, Kind, Aggresive, Caring, Clever, Brave but above all a true lunatic Also vicious, ruthless, psycopathic, amoral, and greedy? He certainly wasn't bulletproof, as the picture proves...... Yeah couldn't argue with you on any of those. Still done loads for the poor, more than the government was doing at the time. Still reverred as a god-like figure in the Medellin province. That why it took to so long for the CIA backed/trained government troops so long to finally nail him when he was on the run - Escobar had that had a ton of safe-houses offered by willing samaritans within the Medellin community, and the Colombian police had little to go on in the way of informants. Escobar's bio [penned by his brother] is one of the most insightful looks, that i've ever read, that sheds light onto somebody who was a real enigma.
  4. I know quite a few supporters who are heavily in favor of Ashley's transfer strategy, which is significantly built around the premise of 'try before you buy' if you go by the number of loans deal negotiated by Ashley's partner in crime, Mr Llambarse. On a side-note i'm of the opinion that the loan system as is stands [re- clubs borrowing top prospects, from higher calibre clubs in the top flight with greater numbers in depth] should be abolished [amongst top flight/1st division teams irrespective of the nation] as it acts a 'get of out jail free' card for club owners who don't have the ambition and are not prepared to gamble & pay the so-called going rate in what is a highly speculative market. It will also force larger clubs with depth aplenty to make a quicker, definitive evaluation as to whether a talented youngster will make it in the top grade based on their current rate of development [within their own 1st team set-up], when making making the transition from their respective youth teams to senior squads. Certainly player agents [as much as i despise them] will certainly prompt the ball to move in this regard, and in certain areas player movement has to be encouraged. Back to the premise of the original post. Ashley and Llambarse would be naive to think that they can keep the ship afloat [when our lack of depth is found out, due to injuries] by assuming the likes of Man United [with their depth] will pass down a favour, or hand-me-down in the form Anderson who i can only imagine would be a potential loan deal as he would fall outside our January budget. We're back in the big league now, with playing assets [Carroll & Enrique] which the big boys will be keeping tabs on. The retention of our premiership status [by capturing a couple of impact players, to save our season, via loan] through loaning off the current big hitters is counter-productive to the very clubs Ashley will hopefully try to hoodwink come January. Our potential relegation spells good news for such clubs who probably have targeted our top assets. Unlike last season, Ashley & Co can't expect any favors from the top flight this time. His retail/trade stall or customer orientated philosophy of running the club [namely try before you buy] will bare little fruit if we're pursuing the likes of Anderson. It's time to punch in accordance to our weight, and behave like a big boy, instead of acting like time-wasters. A previous & maligned chairman seemed to understand this very notion.

  6. Mowbray and Holloway have done alot to remove the stigma most often attributed to newly promoted teams ie. the need to play 'survival football'/avoiding heavy defeats, the need to avoid what is in effect a 3 point penalty by having a poor for & against record. Pulis' [and Fat Sam fits the bill as well] football philosophy is counterproductive to the efforts being layed out by their respective youth academies, it pretty much unravels the good work of the coaches at the grassroots level. The gulf between the technique based methodology employed at Academy/youth level, and what you see dished out on the pitch by each manager [Pulis & Fat Sam], is too great and in layman's terms it must be something of a culture shock for any talent youngster coming their respective ranks.
  7. Enjoyed the fourth episode. Relating to the final ten minutes of that episode, their camp was a little too close to the city limits, going by some camera shots. I remember reading that it was Romero's one time ambition to create a tv series [the screenplay has been drafted] but he couldn't sell the idea to any studios. Pundit: i've ordered Bourne's first book, and i don't normally read fiction novels. I didn't know of it's existence, cheers for the recommendation.
  8. Gorillaz: Rhinestone Eyes. Good lyrics, a removal from mainstream [shit] stuff on the radio.
  9. Panathinaikos are aflush with Champions League revenue, so they're likely to meet any 10m [or thereabouts] valuation. In our case [in acquiring talent/prospects, from the top-end of the talent pool] there's a constant theme of Ashley/Llambiarse's valuation being wide of the mark to that of any potential seller. Ashley & Llambarse are more efficient at signing 1-2m signings under the radar with a scattershot-like aim from the lower leagues, or from competitions [like Holland] which have lost much of their lustre as a talent breeding grounds. If they piss-fart around with this, they'll promptly be told to fuck-off.
  10. I'm hoping either Taylor or Sol cement a spot given their opportunity, to provide some legitimate muscle to compliment Collocini's set-up play out of the back. Williamson has been punching well above his weight, as was the case with Andy O'brien. He doesn't have the pace/athleticism & strength needed to provide the necessary balance to that partnership, to be Collocini's foil or an all-out defensive stopper. Taylor or Sol are best equipped, to fit that role. O'brien is the player i most liken Williamson to - a distinctly limited player in terms of attributes, who plays within hi limitations. Alarm bells should've have been ringing [with SBR] when Roberts torched O'brien for strength & pace nearly a decade ago. Ten years on, and the warning sirens should again be singing [albeit for a different manager] after the same forward beat Williamson in a contested contest, a little too easily for my liking.
  11. The Loch Ness Monster gag, and he connects that with & attacks American Consumerism is classic.
  12. On a side-topic, relating to the bitter Whelan vs Ashley rivalry. It must have been a kick to Whelan's guts after the Serious Fraud Office cleared Sports Direct of involvement in cartel activity - given that JJB/Whelan was the party that blew the whistle on Shit Direct last year in exchange for leniency.
  13. ............... with only a fraction of the proceeds being directed to finding a replacement, and/or strengthening a few positions.
  14. Comparisons with Paul Hart [when the latter had Nott.Forest flying in the Championship, before falling short in the 01/02 play-offs] can be made. He's coaching a good brand of footy, one that's advantageous to the devolopment of the youngsters coming through. Like Hart, i hope the ratio of' accrued debt vs income base' doesn't come to the fore to bite him on the arse, which was pertinant in Hart's case when the core of his squad was dismantled/sold in the space of little more than twelve months.
  15. Aye, the one good album they did. You both should be shot with shit! Bleach is the equal of Nevermind, possibly even better considering the lack of money spent on it. Leaze, stop pissing around and go buy Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger, Sonic Youth's Goo and Dinosaur Jr's Ear Bleed Country (it's a best of but the best starting point with J Masics). "Fell on Black Days" - my favourite Soundgarden track.
