  1. Without googling, which was the last film to win the 'Big 5' Oscars (best director, film, actor, actress and screenplay)? Was a question on The Chase today. 5 precious TT points to the winner.
  2. Was it a golden boot bet? Torres actually does win it because he has the same amount of goals but more assists, they said on the commentary but obviously you wouldn't have heard if you were in a pub or whatever.
  3. This 'Get rid of the old guard because had their chance and failed' reaction by some people is nonsense btw, as long as they're still better than the other options players like Gerrard and Terry have to be in the team. Some people even saying we Rooney should'nt play for us again ffs. The majority of that team were relatively new to tournament starting line ups anyway. Also no point just having a whole team of youngsters as they'd get destroyed, which would probably be more damaging for their development than anything. Took approximately 30 seconds after we went out for someone to start saying how obvious it was that Adam Johnson, Richards and Joe Cole (!) should have been taken and Roy is a retard. I hate football fans sometimes. Glen Johnson massively impressed me. Oh and people saying it would only be Bale if we did what Parky's suggesting, only Bale would be enough to make it worthwhile. 1 or 2 high class players could make all the difference, swap Young for Bale last night and it could have been a different story.
  4. There's a difference between it coming down to a 2 horse race towards the back end of the season, and being able to predict the top 2 teams pretty much without fail for as long as memory serves.
  5. I didn't even get time for a premature 'I told you so'
  6. Prediction: Spain to exit in the group stage
  7. Unless he has an absolutely barnstorming euros I just can't see who's gonna come in for him that would meet his criteria.
  8. No, he makes entertaining, usually pretty original films. Even the ones that aren't all that e.g. Kill Bill are at least something different to the norm and more interesting to go see than yer average 'must-see' film. I hate the word overrated btw especially in cinema/music, because how much you rate something is entirely down to personal preference. If someone else likes a film less than I do, big woop, it's not that I'm overrating it, it's just that it's more suited to my personal preference.
  9. I think peoples reactions are heavily influenced by how much they loved the first 2. I used to be a bit of a fanboy for them so my expectations were dead high, and it was a decent film but just lacked that killer punch, that something special that stays with you. The main character was just too Ripley-lite for me as well, in Alien the strong female was refreshing, here she just felt like a well-worn cliche. Also *******SPOILERISH******* I can't for the life of my understand how a crew who were presumably meant to be leaders in their field, could be so repeatedly incompetent in every aspect of their mission. Taking their helmets off for one, even in high school labs messing with bunsen burners you knew never to take your goggles off. Instantly made you care less about them when they were so blatantly begging for disaster *ENDSPOILERISHHHHHHHHH*
  10. If I'm China, and some Yankee cunt, after 100 years of profiting from factorys, cars, planes and whatever else they've fancied, tells me that as soon as it's my time to shine for me it's now off limits, I doubt that I would comply either tbh.
  11. Well there's always at least one surprise team in these things, wouldn't put it past Portugal sneaking out of their group.
  12. I think you're all missing the point here that if the poor don't like it they should GET A FUCKING JOB!!!...Peasants....
  13. Screw you hippie, they've earned it!
  14. In terms of leadership as captain at West Ham he almost dragged them to safety, I think it can drag other peoples games up when they see him running himself into the ground. He's a decent top 4 dm, nothing more nothing less. Agreed that he's not the player that he was described as but that's through no fault of his own, so I hold that against the writers rather than him.
  15. Walcott seems decent to me also, down to earth girlfriend, seems to have somewhat of a brain, hasn't been up to any untoward shenanigans.
  16. With Parker I dislike the ott hype but see nothing wrong with him as a person. He's a decent player iyam, think the hype provokes people to go too far the other way and label him as shit. You put them in quotes as if they're 2 qualities he doesn't possess?
  17. Young11 probably attracts the wrong kind of chat room attention
  18. Why does everyone seem to dislike Welbeck have I missed an incident? Johnson and Lescott seem fine to me, not saying I'd love them to be my kid's godparents but they've never done anything particularly bad. The toilet seat incident was just too bizarre for me to be offended by. Young dives about a bit but it doesn't irk me that much really especially considering the amount of opposition players that'll be throwing themselves about.
  19. Ah Defoe and Rooney, would agree there.
  20. Wankers like who? Carroll, Terry and Gerrard are the only ones that seem like genuine Knobs to me, Cole gets a lot of stick but having been made to endure the X-factor at times I'm beginning to see why he'd play away. And shooting work experience kids should be applauded. I think 3 per team is probably about the average for any side tbh.
  21. We wouldn't have to base it on Liverpool players if we had better alternatives. I would have chosen Richards over Johnson but him refusing to be on the standby list means Kelly is an acceptable next choice, he's unlikely to even get a few minutes ffs and after everyone crowing about giving the youngsters a chance for the last 2 years I don't know why people are so outraged. With the Rio decision, if it was purely football I think you take him but I can see why he might think it just isn't worth the hassle. Terry's been the better of the two this season and had worked well with Cahill, I think that would probably have been our partnership. As has been said this 'disrespectful to Rio' carry on is a bit ridiculous, if anything that angle is disrespectful to the players that have been selected.
  22. Or the other party in Toms 'friends' banjo string story.
  23. Oh I totally agree, but again because you don't fancy/aren't cut out for a life in the army doesn't mean you're not allowed to form an opinion on whether or not a particular war is 'worthwhile'. Obviously the opinions of the people who are actually involved and have seen things first hand rightly hold a lot more weight but I disagree with 'if you think the war is worthwhile then sign up'. Nobody has said that soldiers lives are 'expendable' btw, but basically saying you agree with the war IS saying that you think it's worth the deaths of these soldiers, because the two will always go hand in hand no matter what the conflict. So the question of how many lives it's worth to accomplishment something is a relevant question, but will obviously and understandably provoke an emotive response from those that know people involved, which is what always makes these kind of debates pretty much impossible.
