I hate the Tony BLIAR thing, always said with such self-satisfaction as if they've just Poirot'ed his DNA on an Iraqi orphans bloodied corpse or something.

He's not top class but Robinson was perfectly capable as England keeper, that freak bobble was a once in a career type of thing that just happened at the worst possible time. Can't blame him for getting sick of all the shit from it tbh and deciding he'd had enough. Much better than Green and Carson imo. Pretty damning indictment of the goalkeeping options we've had to pick from recently like.

His thinking must just be that there are already better versions of Johnson and Lennon (Young and Walcott) in the squad and he wanted to have the option of a different sort of player. I would have taken him but Johnson's one of those players that fans seem to love far more than managers, he's good to watch and does score a decent share of goals but likewise he makes bad decisions sometimes and seems to lose the ball a fair bit. Seems to shoot from distance far too often when there's must better options on. Last year would have said Lennon had to go but seems he's been injured a lot this year and saw recently that Walcott has much superior stats this season. Saying that if stats has anything to do with it Downing shouldn't be anywhere near the squad. At just sticking to the wing and whipping in crosses Downing's ok though and I think the 0 assists thing can be misleading, I've seen him have a few decent games and a lot of the time he's been crossing decent enough balls but with only Suarez to aim for.

Would rather pay to see Chisora sit an IQ test vs a newborn

Neuer could so easily be a 60's Bond villain in that white turtleneck

He'll play a lot more football and probably get paid a fair bit more at somewhere like Villa if they're signing him as a starter. Plus, yeah we're doing very very well, but it's not like being a squad player at Man Utd or City where you know you'll pick up some medals along the way. More money, more football, unlikely to miss out on winning any/many trophies (I hope he does like). Best decision for him, especially at his age where he's coming into his best years.

Martins is (was?) a regular for Nigeria.

Similar with 31 yo Grant Holt, seemed the same people who were saying he'd earned his place over Carroll were the ones complaining that we should be using the tournament for bringing younger players into the squad. This whole Carroll's only had a couple of good games thing, it's not like the EURO's is a 38 game season, we don't need a consistently average to quite good striker. Carroll at his best is very effective, especially with a squad like ours which isn't going to be playing carpet football, and he only needs to turn up for a handful of games. It seems to have been the biggest games that he's played best in this season as well. He's coming in to form at the right time and I think given the chance he'll batter a few defences this summer. I agree with most of the squad, obviously everyone has their own little preferences here and there but I can see the logic behind all of his choices (Downing stretches that a bit... but yes even him). I'm sure post-tournament we'll hear all about how Sturridge and Adam Johnson would have been simply too mighty for any defence to handle and them not starting cost us the tournament but there you go.

Manchester United have never won the title since the departure of Gabriel Obertan.

One thing that'll be weird this summer, is that normally (the last few seasons anyway) if say Tottenham, Chelsea or Arsenal are after an exciting player from abroad I'll hope they get them so that I can see them play, this year it'll be improving the teams directly around us

Think we'll probably be a little too eager and get a bit sloppy in the first half, if we make it to around 60 mins level then I reckon we'll go on to win. -

Newcastle United - 7th largest fanbase in England?
jonasjuice replied to PrideOfBirmingham's topic in Newcastle Forum
As has been said, it's from FIFA ffs. How good/how fun to play as the team is on the game is the biggest factor in a lot of peoples choices. My 'favourite team' was down as Valencia for a couple years when they had Silva and Villa, cause I often played with them so it was quicker to get into a game that way. If next year Chelsea are rated lower than Tottenham then the numbers will swing dramatically in Tottenham's favour, you really can't take anything of much meaning from this. -
I've seen it in at least two documentaries.

I think there's something about us instinctively that makes us monogamous. It's common in animals too, just the best way to ensure survival of your young I guess. Who's the Dawkin's of toontastic for a decent explanation?
