Shane Ferguson tearing apart international opposition
BigWalrus replied to Christmas Tree 's topic in Newcastle Forum
I would argue that we were far from "pipped". I would argue that we scored a couple of fortunate goals from a limited number of attacks, whilst they spurned multiple chances. On another day we could have lost 6-1. -

And I wish people would stop banging on about Jonas and "end product". Have you ever heard a manager talk about "end product"? There is a hell of a lot more to a wide midfield role than whipping a ball in for a striker. Take Saturday for example. Sissoko got the assist, but Jonas' first time ball out wide past Walker was quite special. Then there was the clever sideways pass for Cabaye, whose first touch was ever so slightly too heavy, meaning the keeper got to it first. But neither of these are assists, so neither count as end product. Marveaux came on in a central role on Saturday and was thoroughly anonymous. There was no end product there, but equally as important there was no working for the team, putting them under pressure when they had possession. Marveaux has a decent first touch and an eye for a pass, but it's like playing with 10 men when we don't have possession. -

Aye, Marveaux in for Jonas saw us score a few goals. We also conceded 15 in four games and lost all four of them. -
AIDS? Christ, I didn't realise that.

I like the Grainger Market. You're right though. -
Taylor let the first ball bounce too, mind.

A reasoned assessment, as opposed to the mass of people looking for someone to blame and point the finger at.
-
I'll deny it. He hit it first time, as soon as he possibly could, and the keeper was less than a yard away. He did all he could and the keeper made a good save.

Says you, after saying Tiote is abysmal after being on for a whole 4 minutes longer than Shola.
-
We weren't robbed - Bale was the difference. Never expected anything from this game so we move on from here.

Ashley out! -
Combination of Gouffran coming off and Marveaux coming on. It was a double whammy. Marveaux is a heartless waste of space.
-
Coloccini is equally to blame for being turned so easily. He was standing on his heels - had he not fouled Dempsey, he was clean through on goal.
-
What...like set up another goal, or go on another mazy run past three Spurs players? He's been very decent.
-
Jonas is doing a fine job. Played a good part in the equaliser too.
-
Or diverted it into the top corner, as opposed to the bottom where it ended up.
-
Coloccini caught flat footed - poor defending.
-
I'd happily take a draw right now.
-
Aye, I would have probably started with Tiote, but it's hardly a clear cut decision.
-
Team is: Krul; Debuchy, S.Taylor, Coloccini ©, Santon; Cabaye, Perch; Gutierrez, Sissoko, Marveaux; Cisse. So no instant return for Tiote. And Gouffrran makes way for Marveaux.

To be fair, we did go out all guns blazing from the off, when perhaps we should have been a bit more cautious. The game was over by about 15 minutes in as we were so cavalier.

That would be quite a sight. The bisexual amongst us would love to cuddle up close to an arsuntock

Take everything you hear from Llambias with a pinch of salt. Quotes suggesting that we've replaced Ba are probably designed to suggest to agents / clubs that we're not desperate for a new big name striker and can't be bent over backwards. Everything he says seems to have one eye on gaining a solid negotiating position. Clearly, we are still after a striker as we continued to chase another one in the closing weeks of the transfer window. Ba was bought as a bit of a punt - nobody expected him to be such a ridiculous success here. His basic wage was in line with Danny Simpson! So in that respect, signing Gouffran is a similar signing to when we originally brought in Ba, but there's no way he adequately replaces what Ba became at NUFC. I'm almost certain that we'll be chasing another striker in the summer.

The bottom half reminds me of when my computer used to overheat when I was playing Half Life. When it crashed, the graphics would mess up and it looked exactly like that.

I think it's over the next three seasons. It's also a result excluding disallowed income, meaning if they have a dodgy funding source, UEFA will strip that out of their income and widen the losses. I'm intrigued to find out, firstly, if UEFA have a pair of balls in that wrinkly old sack of theirs and secondly, what creative measures the bankrolled clubs are going to pull out the hat to get round the regulations.
