I admire Carl Heneghan's work prior to covid, and he raises some very good points about the enquiry here. But he also comes across as a bit bitter, he's very much a generalist, and when you're allying yourself to the likes of Julia Hartley-Brewer and writing for the Spectator it suggests to me you are half way down the rabbit hole. Still, the Swedish data is interesting and is worth looking at. They didn't formally lock down in 2020 in the same way as everyone else and had by far the most deaths of any nordic country in that year. But in the following years, other countries have caught up and Sweden overall has the lowest excess deaths rate in Europe - much better than ours. But then they are not a densely populated country with a healthcare system that routinely is above capacity even without a pandemic. I think their policy would have been disastrous here (i.e. even worse than it already was).

Thing is, the science was not hard. Exponential growth. Literally every adult without learning disabilities should be able to grasp this means you lockdown as soon as possible which not only minimises deaths, but also greatly reduces healthcare disruption and reduces the length of lockdown, so is economically beneficial too. It was a no brainer. We on this thread got it, look back if you want. Johnson and Sunak couldn't grasp it. Sunak said "ignore the scientists". Hard to blamne Whitty or Vallance for that. It is all on them. Remember October/November 2020, when Starmer was asking for a circuit breaker, only for Johnson to mock him for cancelling Xmas? Then what happens, we lock down for 5 months including Xmas anyway, and the extra spread of the virus causes it to mutate to omicron, killing literally >100,000 people? And during this time these cunts were partrying in Downing street whilst people couldn't say goodbye to their loved ones. It's unforgivable. They should be in prison, I really mean that. Nowt will happen.
-
I should stop following this enquiry, not good for my health listening to how these cunts completely fucked everything up and will face no real consequences. Listewn to this welsh uber cunt Guto Harri.

Phwoarrr. You could crack walnuts in those thighs.
-
Why I was talking about R5 man. Stop spoiling my biased anti-BBC rant.
-
Dunno if we are just numb to this by this point. But Johnson and our current PM are little better than murderers. Absolutely shocking what is coming out. Barely mentioned by the BBC as usual.

Works on old pallets nailed together too.........

Wait, is it David Bowie? Ahhhh fuck, no, it's that plukey kid at DFS who wouldn't fuck off when we said we didn't want the sofa protection spray.
-
Still time for Sunak to send a task force and win a GE? FFS, this world is bonkers.

I assume there is a bigger garrison on the Falklands now plus military defensive technology?
-
Aye, Argie Fabricunt.

Well, for those of us who thought politics has become batshit in this country, I give you the new president of Argentina.....
-
I noticed that with Adam Flemming. Never a good look.

I think his hand is clutching his ginger nuts.

Even with a 10 point deduction Gemmill will somehow fuck this up.
-
I know exactly what Gemmill looks like, well 10 years ago anyway. He's the inverse of his charming witty persona on here. Looks a bit like Kris Marshall, but like a beta version with extra balding included. Tall, clumsy, awkward, anally retentive. Lovely bloke though. 👍 I dunno. Always curious to know what @Rayvin looks ike. Maybe @Alex can enlighten?

If Bucky was involved I think she might be Daphne's personally. The evidence: The bairn, Daphne, Maggie. Hmmmm.
-
Had on, was she a single mother? So fucking weird. Hen, Joe, Daphne, Maggie, Horace, twins, bairn, Ma and Da. Ten of the sweaty buggers living in a 2 bed tenement. Could still afford a But and Ben holiday ho,e though even if it was a bothy. Does anybody remember the Jocks and the Geordies? Vague recollections as to these 2 groups braying each other, can't remember the context of how this came about, or which comic it was in. Viz spoofed it as well iirc with the Bacons fighting their scottish counterparts.

I'm sorry but Help ma boab. Here's me trying to foster the nihilistic phonetics of 90s Leith, and here's Blastronaut going post ww2 Dundee. Crivvens.

No different to how the MLFs go on about us. Tapped.

I know how you feel. Makes me more angry at the paper than them though. My neighbours opposite read it. Tories through and through, absolutely loaded. But in all honesty, I find them lovely people. Also my mum hasn't read the DM in her life, in fact she subscribes to the Observer. Only watches BBC, not GBeebies or any such shite. She increasingly comes across as a DM reader as she gets older, frankly a racist. My worst fear is we are all hardwired to the same fate.

Funnily enough I just economised by buying a cheap puffer jacket from Sainsbury's. It's toasty as fuck and seem to be waterproof too. Problem is it's too toasty and doesn't breathe, presumably because it's all manmade fabric, making it unbearable if your being active in it. I end up sweating like... like a Renton in Tilleys I suppose. Drenched.

Still love the Truss line on this chart.

Guardian posted a link to this PDF from IPSOS which, as I've been saying for years now, is why the tories are utterly fucked whatever thry do now (aka it's the economy stupid). I'm printing this and putting it in a plastic folder: https://www.ipsos.com/sites/default/files/ct/news/documents/2023-11/Ipsos Nov 2023 Political Monitor Charts_171123_PUBLIC.pdf

It's consistently viewed as the least popular tax iirc. Hey, what do you think about this tax you'll probably never pay compared to this tax on your salary, your food, your energy, the plumber you just used, etc. Another example where Labour have to be brave and frame this correctly, rather than shuffle in their shoes mumbling and say they'll keep this policy.
