  1. I always remember the scene where the Goodies were in a spaceship and they opened a window and loads of stars fell in the space ship. They were ping pong balls. In hindsight I actually hated the Goodies. And the Pink Panther which was on at a similar time. Telly was really shit in the 70s.
  2. Braverman as home secretrary Levelling-up isn't a real position tbf, but putting Rees-Mogg there is pure trolling that I imagine will just backfire. The standout for me is Braverman as home secretrary. And of course Truss herself as PM. Frankly unbelieveable it has come to this during the biggest crisis post WW2.
  3. Seems quite ironic to get a royal commission to fix a democratic manner! I would agree though, but don't know how it would avoid being nobbled by the usual suspects. Lets be honbest, none of this will happen in our life times anyway.
  4. Yeah, I know, fully agree. Whether a referendum abolishing FPTP for PR would ever pass in this country with Dr Gloom and his mates is another thing mind.
  5. That would be a good result. If Labour can't win a clear majority now, they never will under FPTP. I was listening to an interesting podcast yesterday. Europe, especially central and Eastern Europe, is much more exposed to the energy crisis than us. But since the war in Ukraine the EU have effectively gone into a war footing to fix their infrastructure to stop their reliance on Russian gas. All EU countries cooperating to get this done. The work is estimated to be completed by Spring next year, meaning they're in for a very tough winter which most politicians are honest enough to tell their citizens. Meanwhile the UK, in potentially a much better position, has done fuck all to address the coming crisis through a combination of incompetence, corruption, and paralysis. And a media system that simply won't tell the truth to her majesty's subjects (we're not even citizens here).
  6. It might be but reflecting the shit storm coming our way, which will fuck blue wall pensioners as much as everyone else (in fact moreso if Truss carries out her tax cuts which won't benefit them), I don't think its beyond possible that Labour could win an outright majority even without Scotland. Pretty much all the opinion polls indicate this will happen, latest ones show Labour on an incrediblke 120 majority. But I think this could be ironically disastrous long-term, giving Starmer a mandate like this. I want to force him into coalition, whther official or not, and make him realise that it is in Labour's interest to get PR in.
  7. Nicolas Sturgeon, Michelle O'Neill? This isn't the change I want though. Get PR in, then federalise the UK. Andy Burnham might be the man for this. Someone has to.
  8. I kind of agree but just think he hasn't got it in him to start the changes this country desperately needs, major constitutional change. We're in an existential crisis now and a safe pair of hands just doesn't cut it now imo.
  9. Just scanning through this ancient thread, and came across this. Some foresight this like. I thought Alfie Allen was brilliant in this fwiw.
  10. I dunno mate. Seems like a pyhrric victory to me, he'll be alright whatever happens to him after shafting us all. You're probably too young to remember the unseating of Portillo in 1997. That was truly glorious moment, but there were a lot of differences. The main one being the country was feeding on a wave of optimism with our best days ahead of us (which we had imo until the tories got back in and fucked it all more than ever before). Now they have robbed me of all hope and left us with the wet drip Starmer to look forward to at most (yes, my opinion on him is souring). I can't see anyway of getting out of this abyss but maybe that's my depression talking, hard to tell nowadays.
  11. They didn't even bother doing an economic analysis of Johnson's Brexit deal. But nobody in the media gave a shit.
  12. No government can survive this shit storm, inflation getting near 20% ffs. As thing are projected now Labour would win a 120 seat majority with key tories including Rees-Mogg, Peter Bone and Johnson himself being unseated. Also she is fucking awful to listen to. I find it hard to imagine she will get a blip let alone a bump.
  13. Yeah, you're probably right. We are going to learn the hard way the importance of proper governance and evidence-based decision making very soon, in fact we already are. Truss may end up being the shortest serving PM for two centuries. They said Corbyn would reduce us to Venezuela and then did it themselves anyway for a laugh. I sincerely hope we can somehow recover from these cunts.
  14. It's obviously going to be Truss now anyway so it's all academic. He'll not serve in her cabinet so I suspect (hope) that's the last we'll see of the cunt. As for Truss becoming PM, am I still in hospital lucid dreaming in some induced coma or something? I am finding this difficult to believe. What will be left of this country by the time of the next GE in 2 years and a bit?
  15. Is this a straight forward lie or did he really go as a 5 year old (which I guess is possible)? Because he is partly running on an honesty ticket here and you know, I suspect like his predecessor, he is a lying cunt.
  16. Infaltion predicted to hit 18.6% now in January. However, this is funny.
  17. Probably true amongst away fans, always felt ManU home fans were more middle class and/or southern glory hunters whilst Man City were just pure Moss side scum. Never been to Man City since they were successful though so I imagine this has changed somewhat. Genuinely found that NUFC fans get on better with scousers though, the two cities are just more similar culturally imo.
  18. I used to mix with a fair amount of weirdos. Metal heads, punks, goths and grebos, rockabillys. Don't recall the Percy ever being on the radar, went a few times but I think we had some standards. Trillians was always the preferred choice amongst the metal heads, I notice it seems to have survived too. I liked the Trent, Barley Mow, Egyptian cottage pilgrimage best, sometimes with a stop over to score some cannabis at the Broken Doll before they demolished it.
  19. I didn't see the bottles of piss but they always sing "Where were you when you wer shit?". Think only them and maybe villa do this. The fucking nerve of them. In all honesty I prefer Man United to them.
  20. Was a flat white too, I avoided my usual large americano with milk cos I'd need a piss on the metro home. Latter part of your suggestion I may pass on since I'm with my 11 year old daughter.
  21. Went to this ), I really am a fucking talisman. Best match I've seen since the Robson days, we had spells of being unplayable against the best team on the planet. Feels wierd being in a Starbucks now but I'm still grinning like a Cheshire cat!
  22. At £5000 pa cap, 2/3rds of the country will be in fuel poverty. Latest forecasts are that it may rise to £6000. Still, sure Truss will sort it out. https://www.itv.com/news/2022-08-20/energy-price-cap-could-pass-6000-for-first-time-in-new-forecast
  23. Sure you're not using peat? Sure you should, so you should. That fucker Martin Lewis has some shit to answer for. I took his advice on NOT taking a fixed deal in May or June time and now I'm going to be massively out of pocket as the fixed rate deals are insane and variable rates are far worse than they would have been had I fixed when he told us not to. Also think I've said it before, but I'm with EDF with 2 smart meters they fitted when I moved in here. The electricity one doesn't work at all so I still have to take manual readings with estimates based on this. I don't have consoles for either so have no idea what is costing me what. Brand new combi boiler C/H system, new electrics, but my windows and doors and roof are drafty as fuck. I can see myself spending £500 a month or more during winter easily, especially when you wfh. Insane. As for commerical properties, I heard a story yesterday of a fish and chip shop whose energy bills had gone up from 7k pa to 80k pa. Needless to say he is out of business now (when you also factor in increases in cooking oil, potatoes, fish, employee pay etc). This is going to happen on a massive scale this winter imo. I mean even a bag of chips is becoming a luxury (£4.50 here). People aren't going to be eating/drinking out and the whole cycle negatively reinforces itself. This is going to make the 80s look like a cake walk. All this is in the wrong thread btw.
