So, it's obviously officially summer, so I set up my lovely Frame TV you'll all remember about to display a special collection of summer art work. This picture came on. Whey I thought, as any normal person would, let's scan the crowd to see how many Mag shirts I could find. None, zip, nada. But what's this? The only footy shirt on this art exhibit was an MLF! QED or summat.

Sounds like s bit of a nerve from Badenoch that mind. I mean surely the come back is obvious?

Right, now combine with mine and sort out my dialect for @Gemmill š

I dunno, makes perfect sense if you read what he really said. "āWhat is a club in any case? Not the sheyds or the peyple in maroon pants who are peyd to represent it. Itās not the television contracts in the third division marra, nar get-out clauses we didnāt have for that Jack Rodwell, not the non-existent marketing departments or executive boxes, ācos we have none. Itās not the noise, the passyen, or the feeling of belonging, neither, none of that. The pride in your city lolz. Itās a small boy clambering up stedyium steps for the very first time, on his free school ticket, gawping at the litter on that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, singing āfalling in loveā by Elvis marra and claiming it as worsā.

Aye, they should come out to local music themselves. I suggest Nelly the Elephant by the toy dolls or John Kettley is a weatherman by tribe of toffs. š

That'll be those camels, famous for not needing to drink water?

I had to have a 24 urine collection to check my kidney function once. They gave me this 4 litre plastic collector thing cos they needed to know the volume as well as analysing it for various things. So I kept it under my desk at the hospital, took it home, next day still 6 hours to collect. I'd been dehydrated so I was worried it was less than half full, so in the last few hours I started drinking gallons of water. But then I couldn't stop pissing. I remember just being able to stop as it was overfilling, then stumbling off to the path lab to hand it over as I grabbed my crotch to stop pissing myself. Fun times. I was fine BTW, thanks for asking.

Meanwhile, this lad is upset that Going Home is our theme tune, maybe someone should let Mark Knopfler know it's used? Oh. Also maybe someone should contact Elvis yo see if he's okay with them using "Wise men say" [sic]?

I dunno, remember the detail that one about the crisp with lions head went into? A quick Google lens revealed the pointless lie in milliseconds.

Great question, I dunno. I can only guess because Labour's strategists are absolutely fucking useless.

As others I can't say I understand what it's like in London but I'm surprised at this because I think the vast majority of people were sympathetic to Israel at this stage. But, as I said because Hamas is a proscribed terrorist group, I'm not sure what any march would be meant to achieve? The condemnation of Hamas was near universal and Hamas was not supported by our government. Whereas our government has, rightly or wrongly, been seen as complicit in the hugely disproportionate genocidal response, and that's why there is protests imo. I'll leave it there, like I said in my first post I'm acutely aware of the sensitivities involved. At the end of the day nothing anybody does here will have any alrffect, I just hope the hatred bred in that part of the World stops being a contagion.

The singing Detective is actually being remade for the 2020s....

HMHM aged 12 talking to his mates in the '80s: "Naah man am not supporting the IRA man, a had a dream last night and am supporting our future Saudi overlords".
-
I wonder if that's because October 7th was more seen as an actual of terror whereas Israel's attack on Gaza is state led? I don't recall many US flags after 9/11 either, for instance. But everybody I know and the media were both horrified by both events. I'd say the media has been more than supportive of Israel since and not condemnatory anywhere near enough of the horrors their government is committing. When I see a Palestinian flags I think it just means a different thing to me than you. I don't see it as an act of hatred against the Jewish people, I see it as a sign of solidarity for the Palestinian people. I am aware there are also unsavoury messages especially at marches but you can't ascribe that to all people who are horrified by this war. Oh, and Tommy Robinson doesn't have your back, he is just slightly more islamophobic than he is antisemitic. I am sure you know this.

Yeah, if they're taking the bother to unmask every anonymous account on an obscure football board then I think it's the airport queues that will put me off more than anything. Not that I have any intention of travelling to the US unless I absolutely can't avoid it.
-
Interesting mind, I'd say around where I live there were a lot more Ukrainian flags displaying solidarity for the country than Palestinian flags. Admittedly these have decreased markedly due to war fatigue. When I see either I never think about it from the angle of hating Russia or Israel or it people. I believe usually its to express a genuine sentiment for the wars to stop. Edit: posted just after HMHM's post. I think he's spot on.
-
You know, I'm pretty sure such sentiment was quite common at gigs in the 80s. I don't know if technically then it was a hate crime but no-one was getting arrested for it.
-
Soldiers from any country's army are usually exclusively from that country.
-
The IDF is not a person. But I agree with your sentiment. But regarding individuals, plenty of people openly wished Thatcher dead and celebrated her death. I too thought that was distasteful but hardly an imprisonable offence in a free society.
-
If I say "Kill the Russian army", does that mean I literally want to kill all Russians? Because that's where the logical claim of antisemitism in this case would bring me. Of course I wouldn't be talking literally about killing any individual, it would be killing the organisation I'd be referring to. But aye, let's waste money and bring this to court. It really isn't whataboutery at all though, the "crimes" are directly connected. I don't see it remotely as a hate crime personally, I don't equate the IDF as being synonymous with being Jewish, but if I'm not allowed an opinion based on my non-jewish ethnicity then yes, let's take it to court and let them decide. Meanwhile let the atrocities continue and make sure nobody can speak out against it for fear of being labelled an antisemite.
-
Do you think that's what they were doing? I think they were calling for the death of those murdering starving civilians. Is it distasteful? Yes, I think it is. Is it calling for the death of jewish people. No, it isn't. Is it on the same magnitude as those actually doing the daily slaughter, which was deemed less newsworthy by the BBC? No it's clearly not. I normally stay out of these discussions because of the sensitivities involved. But the atrocities committed in Gaza and the rank hypocrisy of our politicians and news media are getting very hard to ignore.

Talk of the devil. Toontastic, falling to bits since 2004. You need this.

Am a fucking health economist you cunt, rationing NHS resources is my job. I've said it before, the most cost effective healthcare intervention, using current cost effectiveness methodology, for old people is actually a gun. Seriously. But we need to keep people like me to make these realisations cos you kids are thick as fuck. š
-
Yeah, I thought this watching the BBC news last night. Story 1, about kneecap and and this Bob Vylan duo being antisemitic and facing years in prison, for chanting "death to the IDF". [Does that fuck make you antisemitic imo] Next story. IDF have massacred starving people in Gaza as they queued for food, AGAIN. The world has turned insane, it started around 10 years ago and just gets worse and worse.

Didn't they kick off about a John Lewis ad for this very reason some years ago?
