Apparently it wasn't in common usage until well after the Georgian era. I checked when I was bored yesterday Good story though. Funnily enough I had a book bought for me a good while ago that was full of these sayings and there supposed origins. I subsequently found out the book was bollocks and most of their claims were based on these types of myths. Can't remember many of them but it definitely made the claim bells were put if coffins hence 'dead ringers' which sprang to mind. Which is fucking ridiculous, if you think about it. I mean, how would that work? Just made me think of something actually, anyone remember that Alfred Hitchcock Presents... where the convict trying to escape gets buried alive?

Had a check and it wasn't awarded for about 5 seasons in the mid-90s but 3 of those 'winners' from those years were from The League of Wales, the Armenian top flight and the top division in Georgia. So, if the same rules had applied to Phillips as they're applying to Cole and Shearer, then Jardel would've won it. Conversely, I think Cole and Shearer would've won it during those years if the co-efficient was applied. Great achievement for Phillips all the same.

Think Mario Jardel would've won that season but the Portuguese League's goals were worth less than the season before due to the Uefa co-efficient thingy. Used to get World Soccer at the time which is how I remember. Think in the top leagues the goals were worth 2 pts and they were worth 1.5 in the so-called lesser leagues. No idea if they still do that but Messi and C. Ronaldo would've presumably rendered that irrelevant anyway.
