Just started on Mildred Pierce. Not read it before but love some of James M. Cain's other stuff (Double Indemnity and The Postman Always Rings Twice).

Longbenton has a big council estate, some bits are rough but not as bad as they were, some other bits are almost exclusively owned by people. Benton is canny posh though. And expensive. Most of it falls under a conservation area with loads of big period properties.

I heard he had a little cock but then again, on the other hand, I'd heard it looked pretty big.

He was wearing shoes when it happened. Just reminded me of a bloke who used to go and watch Heaton Stannington play. He was a teacher and used to go as a couple of his mates who were teachers used to play for them. He was crossing Benton Road late at night, half cut, and bent down to tie his shoe laces at the crossing in the middle. His head was sticking out slightly in the road and a car hit him. They turned the life support machine off about a fortnight later. The driver was never caught. Somebody change the subject. Anyone got any stories about gloves?

Well, both are ok but 'stadia' is just pretentious (it's the correct Latin form).

Aye Blissfully unaware of how even his mates think he's a cunt. My mate from uni had his in Newquay, went 'coasteering' as an 'activity', got a hairline fracture in his back, spent about six weeks in hospital and had to postpone the wedding for nigh on a year.

Fish revealing a little too much for comfort there

I thought I recognised him (I quite liked that Magic City thing he did - set in Miami just after the Cuban Revolution). He looks pretty different (had to google him).

That was in the news recently but it's only the recommendations of a recent report for government I think.
-
Ah right. I'm pretty sure it said that on the news this morning. Perhaps they've not reported it in the article on their site because of her age.

It was just the angle the photo was taken at. Iirc Gemmill's comment was "ratemypoo.com" Is that still a thing btw? How was it ever a thing?

We had some pretty awful news at work this week. There was a lad who did his sandwich year from Northumbria University with us two years back. We'd normally have an IT undergrad but we'd just taken an IT grad on so we decided on using someone studying in the marketing area to try and help raise our social media profile and all that sort of thing. A lass from another company in the building (all the lasses fancied him as he was a handsome young lad) said they'd just seen on the Daily Mail that he'd been killed. In July last year he'd started working down in London in marketing. Only a month or so later he was out on a night out with a colleague. He was in a taxi with him and, according to the story, as a prank he'd thrown the other lad's shoe out the window. There was a bit of a scuffle so the taxi driver chucked them both out. It must have continued and this lad's colleague ended up punching him in the back of the head. He went to A&E the following night complaining of a severe headache. He collapsed and died with a massive brain haemorrhage. He was 23. I'm not just saying it but he was a genuinely lovely lad and one where you felt the world was his oyster. It was in the paper because the colleague of his had just been found guilty of his manslaughter. Apparently the same lad got done for drink driving in 2003, then again a year later and also had a conviction in 2013 for battery where alcolhol was again a factor. The comments from the prosecuting QC also implied there were a few other cautions and the like along the same lines. He's only 32. What a fucking waste of a life.
