Savage is still piss offed about being relentlessly wolf-whistled almost every time he touched the ball in a match at SJP. He's got more edge and considerably less nouse than a broken piss pot.

I know there's more to conceding goals than just the defence but it's crazy we haven't properly addressed our problems there when you look at how many we conceded last season (I think only QPR let in more goals).

I agree, I just interpreted strawb's comments as that, i.e. a consistent performer is a more difficult role is a more valuable asset.

Suppose one is a more difficult position to play in and be effective there, i.e. an attacking midfielder playing in the hole. DM is an important role but I think it's easier to be effective playing there because, to put it simply, it's easier to be destructive than creative on a football pitch. Obviously with the caveat (just for you Stevie ) that being able to play in the more 'difficult' position doesn't mean you'd be more effective than a less creative player if you played in a more defensive role in midfield.

Just think we've loads of potential options in the middle but are weak there. I mean, Wijnaldum could play a bit deeper (especially assuming De Jong is staying and will be involved more), Sissoko could play in there too. Think Colback played well but is essentially quite limited. I think Tiote and Anita behind Wijnaldum definitely has some potential. I liked Haidara when he first arrived but he's struggled since that bad injury. It's understandable but I wonder if he'll ever make it here now. Think Dummett is a better centre-back than a full-back.
