I think I can top that. After the charity shield we got soaked and we were basically standing in the shower fully clothed for several minutes wet (not that I’ve actually tried that). When we got back to the car we had a £100 parking ticket. That and we got stuck in the Oasis Knebworth traffic on the journey home and that added a good couple of hours to the journey.

That Fulwell ‘73 company are canny good. I saw a really good doc on Sky Arts about Motown that they did that was very well done. Consider that and the fact they’re Sunderland fans and how ridiculous the club looked on Sunderland ‘til I Die. Good, sympathetic film makers made them look like a joke. It’ll definitely get them the odd foreign football hipster who thinks they’re so shite they’re cool. But that isn’t going to make them ‘massive’. Most foreign fans are glory hunters. When we lost to them in the FA Cup semi at the old Wembley the Newcastle fans were at the tunnel end. As well as the Newcastle team we gave Chelsea and Vialli a great ovation. He hung around a fair while applauding our fans. To be honest, I don’t think he could believe the reception, given we’d lost despite being the superior side on the day. We still reminded Graeme Rix he was a paedophile though

Genuinely saddened about Vialli. I always liked him as a player. Apart from being top quality he was a proper grafter too. Always came across as a lovely bloke as well.

I reckon that if they had richer owners, a better history, had a larger global profile, a bigger fanbase, had played loads more than us in Europe, had the more attractive city, had better players, were above us in the league and looked to be in a much better state going forward then they could probably argue they were the bigger club.

I disagree. He hasn’t been Prime Minister for years and it hasn’t been obvious for years the Tories were going to lose the next election. They’ve spent a fair amount of this Parliament being ahead or close in the polls. I think he’s fancied himself as PM for a while so there’s lots of major policies he’s enacted as chancellor that he probably thought he’d have to live with the consequences of.
