  1. I couldn’t have put it better myself
  2. Me and my lass have been floored with for about 5 days. Despite being a nurse she hasn’t had the appointment for her flu jab yet. Two of my kids have had the spray. Both ok / minor symptoms. The other one hasn’t had theirs. We’re waiting on an appointment for him to get a jab as the nasal administered one caused an allergic reaction last year. And he’s been really poorly with it. So a combination of that and the symptoms suggests it’s the fucking flu. The real one, not the one people say they’ve got when they’ve got a cold. On the plus side I’ve barely eaten and have lost about three quarters of a stone already. So swings and roundabouts. Apparently there’s 350% more hospital admissions for flu than the same time 12 months ago so there must be loads of it going around
  3. I mean it’s the result that matters (NEE FUCKING SHIT!) but he gets stick for not rotating enough and that being blamed on our injury problems last year in hindsight too
  4. Although the apartment is a sort of rom com it’s Billy Wilder so there’s plenty cynicism in there. To be honest in lots of ways that’s what Christmas is also about, so it’s equally valid. And I say that as someone who doesn’t mind a little bit of sentimentality at this time of year. Re: the two ‘traditional’ Xmas stories we mentioned. Ones really about reminding the main character how many lives he’s he’s touched in a positive way, when he’s in his darkest times. The other is about how it’s never too late to change. I mean that’s my main takeaways from them.
  5. Well Sim just hams it up. As he does. I loved him in the st trinnians films which they used to show a lot when I was a kid.
  6. I’d recommend The Apartment if you’ve never seen it. Anyway practically all Christmas films are about something else and set at Christmas. It’s not like you get many depicting the birth of Jesus is it? I’d argue even It’s A Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol aren’t really about Christmas.
  7. I was just about to say I’ve got little sympathy for anyone who thought it might be a decent investment. Fucking morons
  8. Right, I’ll go with 5 I’d pretty much have to watch if I stumbled across them of an evening at this time of year: Die Hard The Apartment It’s A Wonderful Life A Christmas Carol (Alastair Sim version. The George C Scott one is great, but come on - it’s Alastair Sim) Miracle on 34th Street (old B&W version)
  9. That post has more laughs than the films put together.
  10. If my sums are right, that is now one hundred scores of 50 or more in tests for Joe Root
  11. Just for a bit of balance ASM is a great person too. He regularly donates his bandages to the international Red Cross
  12. Rents will be telling us Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Great Escape aren’t Christmas films next
  13. And, as I’ve just discovered, joint 29th goal-scorer and joint 31st in terms of assists in the Turkish league this season

Not sure that ‘scoop’ was worth bumping the thread for
  15. I know. They aren’t infallible though
  16. I mean there’s plenty instances of people who’ve walked into schools, nightclubs, gone up to people they don’t even know and acted in a seemingly cold and calculated manner (for whatever reason, related to their mental state at that time). It seems quite a leap to state this makes this particularly murder having all the hallmarks of being carried out by a professional killer
  17. The best bit is he’s a professional footballer but the bit with the ball is definitely CGI. But the dancing appears to be real
  18. So, apparently this is what Jesse Lingard is getting up to now he’s playing in South Korea:
