What Mirror Readers think we should do in the summer.
Dr Gloom replied to The Fish's topic in Newcastle Forum
not a bad read that for the mirror -
Tbf, it smells lovelyleeeeeeeee. Never made dumplings before and thinking they look too sticky but we shall see. Knackered and not liking this house work lark. Thought it was all loose women and painting your nails. try inviting the milkman in for tea tomorrow, could spice your morning up.

most of us weren't happy with hughton when he was given the job instead of shearer. fair play to him though, he proved us all wrong and turned out to be an excellent coach and man manager. hence why the needless sacking when he was doing better than any of us expected caused so much uproar. appointing him seemed a daft decision by ashley but he got lucky and unearthed a good young manager on the cheap. then what does he do? sacks him just as he starts getting results and a good team spirit going and replaces him with a coach no other premiership manager would touch. typical ashley move.

Sven great again? Back for England?
Dr Gloom replied to Irrelevant Nick KP's topic in Newcastle Forum
mourinho would be a good shout. we'd play horrible defensive football but at least we'd be hard to break down and would probably get to the business end of tournaments. he'd lift the pressure and the weight of expectation off the players' minds by dominating press conferences and making it all about him plus they'd all respect him. can't see why he'd want the job though. he's got enough millions. more likely to stay in club management before eventually taking the portugal job. -
keane always had the eyes of a lunatic though, even when he was in calm media mode and he was always still likely to come out with some outlandish shit. hughes seems a bit shy and self deprecating in front of the cameras, and less of the arrogant hacker he was on the pitch.

that's like saying roeder had an excellent track record for us because he guided us to 7th. 7th isn't an excellent finish for newcastle, it's the minimum we should aspire to. same as a quarter final exit from a major tournament for england - it isn't excellent; it's par, slightly below par even when you consider sven had all of those players (golden generation or not) in their prime. if he'd gotten us to a final, or semi final even, while getting the players (who all excelled for their clubs at the time) to play convincingly, then i'd agree. yes, he got us to quarter finals, but you can hardly say that we played brilliant football, or that we really deserved to go further. we only qualified for one of those tournaments don't forget thanks to a last minute goal from beckham that saved point against a very mediocre greece side. it was rarely convincing; the football was often too defensive, too direct and laboured. the only really good results i can recall from his reign was the demolition of germany, though to be fair that was a very poor germany side by recent standards, and the gritty 1-0 win over the argies in japan. -
team nasty ffs, i think i missed that meeting. how do i go about getting accredited?

That is a false accusation. It doesn't bother me, we must expect false accusations from a certain kind of person on these forums. But I'll always correct false accusations. so you really do think the way forward for england is a return to the medicority of sven? he never got past quarter finals, which with the players he had at his disposal was probably par or slightly below par. he never really over-achieved. so why do you reckon he would do better now with an arguably poorer collection of players? serious question btw. -

one vote so far for sven. i wonder if the nick bashing will inspire any pitty votes. -

nick, you're not being bullied without reason. you post these outlandish minority views, i'm sure because you want to provoke a debate. but underscoring your point in bold doesn't disguise the fact you're just plucking random contrary bullshit out of thin air. i can't believe anyone who has followed england in the last few years really wants sven back. he did better than capello, but only marginally so. you must be able to see there are better contenders out there. we are poor now but we weren't great under sven, so why go back? is mediocrity really something to aspire to? -
sounds lush. it's 25 degrees in lausanne though so it's salad for me tonight. i'd like what you're having on a cold winter's night mind.

I have come to expect some moronic responses, yes. But i'll continue to post things that I genuinely believe (like thinking that the only man who has taken England to a quarter-final away from home after 1990 wouldn't be such a bad idea). Not going to allow what I believe to be moronic responses (like a couple of yours) to stop me from saying what I think. so you're basically saying the consensus is for morons. makes a lot of sense -
It would have to be a deal that involves us paying a portion of his wages. Could only see him going to a Championship side though (ability-wise) and I can't see them paying even £10k a week which would mean us picking up a bill of over £50k a week for someone we can't even pick in an emergency. i shouldn't laugh but that's a pretty accurate description. we can't even play him when we're down to the bare bones, he's that bad, and at the same time, he's picking up 60k per week. got to be up there in the canon of horror toon transfers. worse maybe even than the owens, marcelinos and luques - at least we were able to shift those in the end. smith might be our most expensive ever mistake. costing a fortune and so bad no other team will take him off us. Especially if he was already out on loan the way i misread that post is equally accurate, and painful. we can't afford to pick him in emergency when he's not out on loan....as the last home game of the season showed. he's a total fucking liability.

nick, you're a strange character aren't you? when you start these threads do you really envisage that they will spark serious debate or do you deep down expect to be ridiculed? are you a masochist? -

that was a shocker. possession of the ball is so key in international football and he basically sidelined and ultimately forced out england's only central midfielder that knew the value of ball retention. gerrard, lampard and beckham all play way too many hollywood balls that don't come off. scholes knows you keep moves ticking along by keeping the ball. for what it's worth nick, i think sven did ok as england manager but no better than that. he did the very minimum that was expected of an england manager with tht set of players but was never able to take the team to the final stages of a tournament. quarter finals are ok, but not that much to write home about. i doubt he would inspire the current lot to do any better plus the nation and the media have had enough of him. to suggest he comes back is just daft. -

i'm covering a conference in lausanne today. best media food EVER. sushi, salads, noodles, bbq and the most amazing macaroons. krug is one of the sponsors so the plonk hasn't been bad either so far

I don't think that's accurate, quite the opposite. A lot of people were sticking up for him all the time on the basis that he works hard and 'always gets stuck in'. I remember it well because it pissed me off right from the moment we signed him. same same. i could never get all the fuss about him. he was a striker that couldn't score goals, or a midfielder that couldn't tackle, or pass. all for a bargain £60K per week (cheers fat sam ) i don't even think he's scored a competitive goal in his time with us has he?

In all his time here I think I can only recall three people saying anything nice about him. All lasses. As a bloke he's a mug (see Rangers away), I bet he's soft as shite as well and he loves the hardman image, but the main thing is, what a thoroughly wank footballer he is. He hasn't got one attribute, like literally not one. not that i'm one to rake up old misdemeanours but i remember alex saying he was a good signing when we got him
