  1. Did the fact that it said 'Farmyard Manure' and not 'Compost' on the bag not give you a clue that it was the wrong thing? I swear you're Boldon's equivalent of Frank Spencer..
  2. Seriously considering hiring a gardener to get the back ready for summer. Cut the grass yesterday and it confirmed just how much I detest gardening, especially with a dodgy back - in a bit of pain today. Need lots of weeding done and some extensive hedge-trimming and just can't face it!
  3. The Times are reporting a heroin OD but the inquest doesn't actually open until this afternoon. Such a horrible, pointless waste if true though. Hard to believe that any of her daughters would touch drugs after what happened to their mother.

Ooo, I never thought of that! Maybe I'll start taking the unwanted ones home and make a bit of cash.. (If my boss is reading - I'M JOKING!)

We've had a few new mams at work who have taken their placenta home to bury in the garden but none that have taken it to eat as far as I know.
  6. Died following pneumonia aged 71
  7. Really very overwhelmed mood at how coincidental and mad life is. In short, some of my family emigrated to the USA in the 1930's and we've been in touch ever since. I went over in 1994 and spent a month with my extended family in Massachusetts/New Hampshire/Connecticut . Recently a family member's father (also a prominent baseball coach in the US) has undergone major heart surgery in Florida and he's in a pretty bad way. Discovered tonight that he's being cared for in an intensive care unit where a good friend of mine works. She and I worked together as baby nurses in Manchester before she emigrated over there about 10yrs ago. Weird...
  8. I know the NHS is under immense pressure at the moment but much of that sounds frankly ridiculous. Yes there are policies and protocols to follow, but if an anxious parent rings up with a simple question (having already been treated at the hospital earlier) then the staff should use their professional knowledge and a bit of common sense and advise the parent appropriately. Fluid is fluid. If he needed more than simple water then they should have kept him in for IV colliods. It's a shame that was your experience. Knowing both the A&E and paediatric staff at our place, I'd like to think it would have been dealt with in a more approachable manner given that ultimately it means dragging a bairn to and from hospital in the middle of the night.
  9. DG - Are they treating or further investigating the bairn's low Hb? Glad to hear he's doing much better. Oh and any of us grown-us who dare to whinge about any minor ailment at the moment should read Stephen Sutton's story and man the fuck up. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/stephen-sutton-teenage-cancersufferers-condition-improves-after-coughing-up-tumour-as-benedict-cumberbatch-backs-campaign-9294260.html
  10. Yes, absolutely. The amount of paperwork has increased massively in the 15yrs I've been qualified and it's even worse on the wards. It's computer data that takes time for us in theatre aswell. I have to input the time that every patient is sent for, arrives, goes into anaesthetic room, starts anaesthetic, completes anaesthetic, goes into theatre, start of operation, end of operation, leaves theatre, enters recovery, is ready for discharge and is finally discharged to the ward. The purpose of this being to "see where time is being wasted" We also have to scan every piece of equipment we use - from the drugs, tubes, drips, oxygen to syringes and needles. Sometimes during the day there'll be 12 patients on a 9-5 operating list and we have to do that for each one. Whilst I'm doing that I can't physically be in theatre with my patient.
  11. I won't be assisting with the procedure. I'll be leaving him in the capable hands of a lovely bloke called Paul while I go home to bed
  12. Just seen you on the list. See you in the morning!
  13. Belated Happy Easter heathens. I worked all of it then was struck by man-flu last night. Have spent today feeling sorry for myself and keeping the boy amused watching Frozen and taking him out for tea. Urgh.
  14. Me three. Can still waste many an hour reading an atlas. The bairn has got a huge interactive world map for his Leap Reader and we spend ages finding countries and learning about the children that live there. He WILL be a nerd and proud of it
  15. Good gawd, the Hell slide. I was petrified of it but everyone else on the school trip were hurling themselves off it so I felt like a right wuss. Ended up climbing over and sliding down on my front like a proper girl
  16. My week of fun is over. Back to reality
  17. We're going to the Lego exhibition at Life tomorrow. I don't know who's looking forward to it more
  18. I think I preferred Andrew's post Congratulations - that's fab news (Andrew again)
  19. It's okay to watch Toy Story 2 on BBC3 after the bairn has gone to bed, isn't it?
  20. Ooo, he's had 2 pints Paracetamol and brufen pet
  21. He was giddy as a kipper and absolutely loved it. Nothing too competitive at 5 but the guy training them was adamant they'd learn about getting into space instead of just having 10 headless chickens chasing a ball! And yes, you need to let your ankle get better now!
  22. The bairn had his first ever football training session with Washington Under 10's today. Ridiculously proud
  23. Having met him, I can confirm that Ant is far better looking than that!
