Fair call Alex and I agree our midfield seems to hold onto the ball as if their life depends upon it instead of utilising a quick release. But I still feel part, not all, of the problem is Owen is over compensating due to his lack of pace and being caught out because of it. I always remember Owen's skill was to nip in under the defenders feet, knock the ball around them and set off towards goal. Now he seems to be relying on the defender making a mistake and the ball spilling through to him once he's got in behind the defence.

Yes, it appears to be the case. Even Shearer lost all his pace you at least knew he could still hit the ball with power. Owen just doesn't even seem to have that left.

You could see today that his timing today is still pretty perfect if it hadn't been for the stupid linesmen who only suffer from their Parkinson fits at the wrong moments. A couple of other runs behind the back of the defenders were decent too, shame he has to get the service from the likes of Butt and Rozehnal in midfield... Wolfgang I must admit I didn't get to see the second half because I had to get to work but in the first half it looked 50/50 to me. He was called wrong on two occasions but there another couple where he was definitely offside. It looks to me he is aware he's lost a lot of pace and he's over compensating this results in him being offside a lot more. The other problem he faces is on nights like tonight when the ball is skiding across the surface he us shown up for his lack of pace.
