Speaking of grads, I worked for a time for a French subsea engineering company my favourite grad story from the engineering guys: They were planning a load of a huge amount of pipeline gear onboard a ship, but they couldn’t get it all to fit (using 3d modelling software). They were at it for hours and hours, anyway young grad says ”can I have a go” Fuck it they say, why not, we’ll take a break, not 10 minutes later grad finds them to announce he’d done it. Incredulous “How’d you manage that” they say, he replied “I just changed the scale of the load” proud as punch. I do also have another grad genius moment, it involves painting arrows on the seabed to help direct a pipeline laying op. “Can we not just paint some arrows”.
