I've not heard anyone say anything good about Win ME, but I ran it on a laptop for five years with pretty heavy usage and it never really gave me any problems. It was a Packard Bell too, chances of that working that long are usually pretty slim. I'm with Fop, the next OS I get after XP Pro will probably be Linux-based.

Stick with it until you have no choice but to upgrade. There are loads of decent refurbs or returns that are shipping with XP Pro which for me is hard to beat as a stable Windows OS.

I always thought Queudrue was a decent defender, but not in the same bracket as the likes of Bridge. If Franck is going cheap, i wouldnt see signing him as precluding any interest should Bridge become available later.

Depends what you're doing, which is the same for comparing unis anywhere. A decent uni may have some outstanding departments and others which fall into the 'pissup in a brewery' category.
