Exactly. While I can accept that they can see "something" in certain players, picking players who have not played red ball cricket (or any) recently was an absolute disgrace. As for picking Overton, who shouldn't even be playing white ball cricket for England even if it is his better game, that was incredibly stupid. While they could not legislate for Woakes' injury, even expecting him to play after a not particularly good series when he is 36 or 37 and being the only bowler to play all the tests, Overton was not the answer. Arguably (and he isn't the answer either), Tongue should have played for one of Carse or Woakes in the last test. Bethell did not deserve to be in ahead of Dawson, either. I am sure Dawson would have got more runs that Bethell, Overton, and Tongue together. As for Brook and Smith - fucking idiots.
