Birdman. Thought it was a bit meh. The acting was good and I generally like Keaton but other than that I didn't find it particularly engaging. -
I think he's always had the ability to create a goal for himself. I'm not talking about dribbling past players but when he receives an average ball to his feet and manages a quick turn or something that get's him enough space to get a shot away. I remember him scoring one like that up here a few seasons ago. He's not like Bent who needs them on a plate.
-
I just keep hoping theres something in there that's a reason for him to get away from here. Fuck knows what it is though.
-
Whilst I'm not in the least bit in favour of Carver getting the job (I'm far from convinced he's a good enough coach to be assistant manager which in effect is what he was for Pardew), the performance in the first half at least on Saturday surely does give a bit of confidence that we can get a few more wins this season? I agree with everything else like. Ashley is taking all of the pride and most of the joy out of being a Newcastle supporter.

In the short term at least I can see Defoe doing very well with the tramps.

Recommend me a good restaurant in Newcastle
David Kelly replied to Anorthernsoul's topic in General Chat
I'm booked up for Dacantus. It's a really small menu (only three options for starters and mains) but there was at least two options that looked canny. I went in for a drink a few months ago and they gave us a free taster of something and it was really nice so I've fancied going since then. Going to the Vermont too. Went there in the last restaurant week and it was some of the best food I've ever had round here. The menu is a bit smaller this time around but there's still plenty of choice. A few of my mates went to that Miller & Carter steakhouse recently and they thought it was fantastic. I know it got a poor write up in the chronicle in it's first week but they've been twice now and really impressed with the steaks. -
He's a player who always seemed to do well against us. I'd rather the tramps didn't replace the legend that is Jozy Altidore with him. It's ridiculous money for them to pay for a player at the stage he's at of his career but I think he'll do pretty well for them.
-
I would imagine the players like most people worry about change and are happy with what they know and that's why they are backing Carver. I doubt it's because they think he's any sort of great coach.

I agree but it doesn't hurt them to have a nice excuse lined up for not signing anyone.

The uncertainty isn't beneficial but the ideal for Ashley would certainly be that Carver is capable of keeping us where we are. He's obviously going to be the cheapest option and clearly would take all of Ashley's shit. It therefore follows that he would give Carver a decent chance to prove himself. While he's giving him this time he's also reducing the likelihood of us signing anyone this month. To me it makes sense that they keep things like this for a while longer then give Carver the job.
-
Garde seems like a good fit for us really. He's done well with limited resources and seems to be well regarded as a coach and has been able to cope with his best players being sold from under him. The fact there's no compensation is also ideal. You would think that Ashley would be willing to spend a bit to get him the coaches he wants in his team. Let's face it, backroom staff aren't going to cost the earth. We'd more than likely be able to bring in who he wants and get rid of anyone he doesn't (I would think there's a decent chance at least Carver or Stone would stay for a bit of continuity anyway) and still have money left over from Pardew. It could be that only Woodman needs to be paid off and he won't be on much of a wage (comparitively).

Moussa Sissoko signs for Spurs for like £30m or WatEVA
David Kelly replied to Park Life's topic in Newcastle Forum
Aye, before this season Sissoko had only really had the odd good game for us. In the summer I doubt many teams would have been considering him at all. Now we're seeing him make something of his potential and I'm sure there's teams keeping tabs on him but I wouldn't imagine many would be sold on spending £20m yet. Cabaye was an altogether different proposition. He'd captained Lille to the title and had a very good reputaition in Frace before he came here and consistenly performed better than the rest of our players. He also plays in a position that a lot of clubs could do with players in (arguably not PSG it has to be said). Whilst I still don't think he's really what they need, I think he'd still be a much better buy for Arsenal than Sissoko.- 1745 replies

I'm not saying you're wrong with this idea necessarily but why do you think this would be the case?

I enjoyed the Immitation Game like. I didn't really know much about him before hand so that might have actually helped me just accept how he was portrayed rather than if I'd known what he was really like. Watched The Interview yesterday too. Thought it was exactly what you'd expect from them but not as good as Pinapple Express or This Is The End. -

David Kelly replied to Park Life's topic in Newcastle Forum
There's not an obvious immediate place for him at the type of clubs that he'd be looking to move to. Arsenal are overrun with attacking midfielders and while none of them are really in the same mould as Sissoko, he's not what they need at all. I think that's why I'm not massively concerned the he will leave this month. Last year there had been plenty of interest in Cabaye and he'd made it very clear in the summer that he wanted to leave. Sissoko has only said the same thing that we know all of the players think. It's disrespectful and the club shouldn't be allowing it but it's more likely that they actively encourage it.- 1745 replies

I wouldn't say we rolled over after they took the lead. They just know how to finish games off when they go in front. And lets face it they are a considerably superior side to us. But we turned up and were excellent in the first half so I think it's worth taking that as a positive. Cabbella's performance was particularly positive given that we'd not seen anything like that from him before.

Not if you only watch 5 minutes of them! -
I assumed he'd died years ago. He was the male lead in the Birds too, which I must admit isn't my favourite Hitchcock by a long way but he was quite good in it.
-
Doesn't physioroom put no return date when they're little unspecified knocks as well as when they are long term injuries that will have a player out for months? I don't think this is a case where the club has told them the players are out long term. Of course that doesn't excuse Carver blatently lying and saying they had any injuries at all.
-
I just hope Williamson plays and kicks the fuck out of Hazard and puts him out for the rest of the season. It will help me no end in my fantasy league!
-
Chelski rarely give teams a proper twatting as they usually take their foot off the accelerator when they get in front. That is my big hope tomorrow as I can't see us getting more than a couple of strikes let alone goals. Their recent comparitively poor form and their likely desire for revenge after the game here fills me with dread though. My avoidance of alcohol since new years day looks set to be abandoned tomorrow as I suspect I'll need several drinks to make it through the match!

It's not a particularly positive article at all. It suggests their defence was awful and he struggled to come up with any ways to fix it (seemingly changing it every week over the period they are refencing). But it does suggest that he's a manager who looks for different ways to try and attack and defend depending on the opposition and who he has available. That in itself suggests an improvement on Pardew. The fact that during his time there Lyon were in a financial mess and selling their best players means that he is someone who is already familar with the conditions he would be working under here!

You didn't make the distinction but you were far from the only one writing him off at that point. Xisco and Marcelino's names were being mentioned.
