I'm predicting a critical mauling from you. I've got a feeling that it's going to feel like I'm having to force myself to watch til the end. Am I right? Pretty much how I felt. 2010 is much better. -

Platoon pisses on it for me. It works as a whole film wheras FMJ is two halves one of which is far superior to the other. I didn't get 2001 at all. I recored Barry Lyndon on Sunday so I will give that a go when I get time. -
Is it just me or does he look like he's having a wank off camera?

TBH all of Kubrick's films apart from Spartacus (and I beleive Kirk Douglas virtually directed that) and The Killing have been disapointing to me. I do like the first part of Full Metal Jacket like but it goes to shit a bit after him off Criminal Intent kills himself. -

I finally got round to watching Dr Strangelove last night. Peter Sellers, Slim Pickins, Sterling Hayden and particularly George C Scott are all excellent but overall I'm not sure what to make of it. I was expecting a laugh out loud comedy and aside from the presidents telephone conversations with the Russian premier and some bits with General Turgidson there wasn't much that I laughed out loud at. The overall situation was certainly comedic but I the film seemed to generally play as a thriller. Overall not as good as I was hoping but I think I might enjoy it more when I watch it again with revised expectations. -
I think the added polish from being with a major label now doesn't really help them at all but I still enjoyed it lot on first listen with O Valencia being the stand out track. Not as good as their last album like.

I used to play against the lad to had to get off with her on it (was he called Markus in the programme?) at the time they were on it. Fuck me did that kid get the piss taken out of him when we played them.

The third one was completely wank, the second was ok but First Blood is a cracking film.
-
Are you trying to say that Rambo 2 was the real first one as Rambo 1 was actually called First Blood?

I would struggle to think of anything more vile.

I thought the Cheggas bit sounded like it could have come straight from big Keith on the Office but I agree it was class. "Willy Wonka? Johnny Wanker more like it!"

YLT have been around for a good while. They're not quite the grandfathers of indie rock, but they're the middle-agers. And Then Nothing Turned Itself Out was a really good album. I like them, but I'm not a huge devotee. And Then Nothing is probably my favourite album of theirs but their new one is a lot more ecclectic and a lot closer to I Can Hear The Heart in style. It's very good as are all of their albums. They're very well received by the critics but for some reason I hardly ever hear anyone mention them which is a shame.

Is that the slang for bumming a fat fudge packer then?

Charles Laughton?

Sorry I'm not up on all this top of the pops shit. Too busy listening to bands with irrational hatreds of months who actually make decent music.

Apart from when they're bred in a fish farm... Not just then, with shrimp fishing something like 95% of the catch is discarded (already dead). Like I said, I know it doesn't stand up in reality but I never let that get in the way of a good theory

Annalism? Exactly. Now I am sure Patrokles and David Kelly will thank me for ruining this thread! So does all this mean you've heard the album or are you still stuck on the lastest from S Club 7?

My aunt borders on being a Vegan and she got my dad to be one of those fishy veggies that Alex hates, and I was the same till I was about fifteen. Mainly because of taste for me although I've always found the idea fish at least having a life of their own before they got caught somewhat comforting (I know this doesn't always stand up in reality). But I always found the look of Chicken and Steak appealing and as I've got older I've ate more and more meat. I do still enjoy vegetable dishes a lot and if I'm having pizza or pasta I nearly always go for the veggie option.

I've only heard this one and The Sunset Tree and I agree I prefer his more upbeat songs (This Year and Dance Music being two of my favourite songs from last year) but I am still enjoying the album. Have you heard any Yo La Tengo? I had never heard anything by them until about six months ago and now they are quite possibly my favourite band and I'm trying raise their profile.

The Abyss Special Edition. The special edition is very good but the normal version is pretty much n watchable. -
Serena Maneesh. Quality mix of MBV, Jesus & Mary Chain, Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth and about a hundred other cool bands.
