A very emotive subject. A tough choice thinking about it now, imagine how tough it would be in the real situation? I have a half sister who has Downs. That made me terrified that for some reason one of my kids could be born Downs, even though thats not how it works. When my youngest was around 20weeks (during pregnancy) it was suggested (wrongly I may add now) that he could have scoliosis or spina bifida. We wouldnt know for a week until we had another scan. In that week, we both just really felt strongly protective to our unborn son. No self pity, maybe a little anger and sadness. I know its not the same, but being in that position your thought process changes. I suspect that may well be the same if you found your child was Downs. As it happens, the opinion of the person who done the first scan was incorrect and our son was fine. But that was one hard week.

It is. Being a boring old fucker I like to walk around Northumberland. I was out just at the weekend there walking 10mile around Allen Banks, Planky Mill & Staward Gorge. Some cracking landscape.

I can't stand/tolerate people like that. I just don't have the patience. I remember we lost a customer as he was making unrealistic demands and shouted at a lass (down the phone). He asked to speak to me and said did I want his business or not. The silence that followed my "no" was glorious I've never worked in a pub or similar. But I doubt I could work with the general public.

No one for me I'm Old sklool but not opinionated enough to sit on any side of a particular fence. If anyone I'd have said Phil Craig, as I followed him here from the original TT and Soccer 24-7 before this was set up. But, he lead the merge with NO and then I came back here Prob other Old skoolers for me though whether they like it or not

I can't recall which editor I contacted some while back and I got the stock response. We conversed over a few emails and he seemed decent bloke. But the general reply was that columns or blogs are there to provide a discussion point and that as my email showed, it worked. Was nothing about facts but about opinion of the column writer.

Aye, Fletcher is said to be behind many of the major positive decisions around then. Twat of a bloke who deserves a hell of a lot of credit for our change around.

I often think that in many ways FFS was an ok, slighty irritating bloke who really had the major decisions at the club out of his hands but was the face for them. KK appointment was a masterstroke. Replacing KK with KD? Not so. The difference in styles was so vast that where KK's team was on the brink, it was changed so much by KD that it was unrecognisable. Slowly but surely all KKs work was undone. But, I dont blame KD for that or FFS. I think that choice was likely between SJH and maybe DH. Same again bringing in GS and most of all as has been said getting rid of SBR when they did and how they did.

1. Mike Ashley - Buck stops at him 2. Dennis Wise - I think he had Mikes ear and was Mikes footballing brain imo 3. Derek Llambias - All things I hate about the club right now, him and him smug fucking face 4. Douglas Hall - Leech 5. Graeme Souness - Though some blame could go to who appointed him. When we needed the squad tapped with a stick, he comes in with a big fuck off hammer.

Out of all the players Hughton has brought in this season, I'd say only Best and Pancrate have been poor. Routledge, Williamson and Van Aanholt (for the time he was here) have been very good signings imo Danny Simpson, Harewood, Zurab whatshisface and Fitz Hall have all done reasonable jobs. Only Pancrate and Best haven't really performed. That's not a bad record however you look at it. I don't think Routledge is THAT good. He lacks control. Williamson looks canny mind. Thats the way of cut price players though, you buy 5 or 6 and one or two works out to a certain degree and people advocate the system on the basis of those one or two. Its bollocks at the end of the day. Buying proven quality players and/or the best players now and again from smaller clubs like Spurs, Villa instead of the other way round, changes the perception of the club within the game and correctly asserts NUFC as being a bigger club than these sort of clubs. I like Routledge, his control may not be top notch, but he creates things. You could argue that Jonas has better control but creates less. Then again, we have to remember all of our players we seen this season and the level of opponent. Whole new story next season. Jonas and Collocini looked very average first time around in the Prem, but may be better now are more settled in the side. Williamson Ive been very impressed with. He could be stronger and it will be interesting to see how he handles the prem, but he looks steady, hasnt made many glaring errors. I know what you mean about perception though. Buying bigger players attracts bigger players. However, realism tell us that a) it can lead to very costly mistakes (hindsight though eh?) but more so Will never happen under Ashley anyway. I think you can be sensible and spend cautiously and reach the top 8, but if your aspirations are bigger than that then you will struggle. Would take us a good few years to get to that level again and thats if we headed in the right direction slowly building each year, that in itself is another struggle.

Aye, hope gets the extra time he and his family are hoping for. -
Anything I would say has either been said here or on the site in direct response.

However we're losing £500k per week according to the same journalists. So that additional £40m will only put you £14m in the black. So how is it feasible to pay out £20m on players and £20m to Fatty? That would put you £26m in debt wouldnt it? Ergo, we pay £20m off the debt and end up £6m further in the cack??? Im no accountant but my breath is baited waiting to see how that ones recorded on the balance sheet My thoughts exactly. If we do stretch it to £60M extra revenue. Less the £25M losses we are making now less £20M per year to MA leaves £15M. But, then factor in wages at say £20Kpw = approx 1M. So, if we want to increase the squad by 5 you might as well drop that £15M to £10M per year on players. Ish.
-
I would be happy with £20M being spent over and above any sales money that is also re-invested. They key, and I agree to this, is not going out spending £19.5M on a "trophy" signing. We need sensible signings. No headline signings. The aim has to be survival then the season after build again and cement our place in the league once more.

Aye somehow I hadnt seen this before either. Was good to watch actually. Good to hear their thoughts about what was going on then. Also about how when KK left and KD came in everything changed, totally and how Shearer became the core focus of the team rather than the whole team. Also picked up on how they agreed it was bad that Les had won player of the year and then Shearer came in and was told he was losing his no 9 shirt to him (AS). But that he was getting no 10 which was Clarky. Said this had a bit of a negative impact on the team. Still, you could still hear their enthusiasm for what went on then and KK's cavalier approach.

I've seen little in Bests game to convince me he is worth keeping. Even without the goals, the whole thing just looks wrong.
-
In other words it'll be harder for him to justify not spending on the team? I may be cynical but as has already been said. How much will he expect back himself for money he has "loaned" the club? When he sets a transfer budget, what does he include in this ie Wages etc. I dont expect 100% of increased revenue to go on players, that is unreasonable, and I suppose any figures now are pure speculation by the media. I guess its wait and see. Tbf, their Jan window was pretty good. But this is a whole new game now.
-
This.. It just doesn't add up. Makes perfect sense to me. DL doesnt have a clue about the club, football, the fans or reality. I'd expect no less than this remark. They could, in theory, sell maybe 5K more season tickets plus some corporates. Maybe a revenue of £3M from those plus a little extra on food etc. Not all of the current season tickets are on 3yrs so they will have a lot of renews, but that will be taken into account already so we're only looking at extra's. Im not sure out of how many 43K attendance are season tickets and how many are cash on the day etc.

Aye but that would be one monster 7 hour drive early in the mornin for her like. I was kinda thinking you drove from Carlisle like not her. Also I reckon 5 hours from Glasgow.
