  1. Thought he looked excellent, him Bechhio and Snodgrass were top class for Leeds. The move which involved all 3 and led to the overhead kick from Beckford would have graced any premiership match. He gave Carragher a hard match from the off.
  2. Only managers whose agents specifically included a clause about termination and hence only the big managers with a strong bargaining position can demand this. Termination clauses are common but 'the whole amount of the contract to be paid on early termination' must be quite rare. If he can prove constructive dismissal, then i think that invokes the law as well as the specifics of the contract. If he can prove this, then he is entitled to a hell of a lot of money. Whether its good for the club or not is irrelevant at this point since proving constructive dismissal is basically saying that they were such cunts towards him they were breaking their side of the employment contract and the payment becomes a form of punishment (in the eyes of the law). Notoriously difficult to prove though.

    Fucking wiggers.
  8. At first i thought Wirkus was going to be a similar character to Murray off Flight of the Conchords. He was still pretty great though. I thought it was a really well constructed film, thoroughly enjoyed it.
  9. I fucking hate people who take comedy seriously.
  10. Cojones? I don't rate Barton, never have, have never understood when people say he is the best midfielder we have, quality nobody else brings to the team, etc etc. He's never looked owt special, never, and I wish we'd sold him any of the numerous times we had the opportunity to. Won an England cap in centre mid (think how hard that is nowadays) playing at Man City. Was instrumental in keeping them up the last season he was there. Was also class under Keegan if you saw those games? Him looking shite and disinterested of course still stands. Imo its because the side should be built around him and he knows that, Hughton is not brave enough to give him license in the middle so sticks him out left. No excuse for the lack of effort though.
  11. For young players, there is no other guideline though really. Some experience of playing in a lower league would be the best scenario for people wanting to make a judgement because reserve team football is, more often than not with the bigger sides, basically the academy team with the odd first teamer regaining fitness etc. We are in a lower league...

But correct. Genetically we are still mainly "Celtic" - that doesn't mean Irish or anything like that - it refers to the people who populated the Islands after the last Ice Age and as you say haven't been diluted that much by invasion. The supposed Norse influence on the North East is significant in the North of Scotland and the Isles but less so in England. It's sort of funny how the BNP have had to "reluctantly" extend their definition of what is okay beyond Anglo-Saxon to include Celtic - considering the genetics make us predominally the latter. I Think it depends where you are from Anglo Saxon genes dominate across most of England with some Norse and Celtic - but the further west you go the more Celtic we become If your second toe is bigger than (or equal to) the length of your big toe Anglo Saxon it is...................... Isnt there something about the 'celtic bump' on the back of the head? Or is it gallic? Or maybe Basque? "You are now fingering the back of your skull" [/derren]

Did you know that the word 'welsh' is anglo-saxon for 'foreigner'? I'm no historian but from what i can gather, one of the most poorly understood parts of our history is whether the norman / anglo-saxon invasions influenced the gene pool as much as was thought previously. Modern theories point to genetic research which claims that the influence of the cultures that invaded Britain was predominantly linguistic and cultural and that they did not colonise the country. The North east was of course the site for numerous saxon landings. It makes sense that for the indigenous Britons to survive they would need to adapt the language and customs of their new overlords to survive. It sometimes easy to forget that the UK and France were the top 2 bits of real estate in Europe. Large coastal areas with highly arable land meant we were the envy of the arid southern states, the barren northern scandanavians and the landlocked and humid east. We were constantly being ransacked and sized up for invasion from the north and east. Those northern and eastern lot (norsemen) settled in northern france (normandy) and then invaded from the south in collusion with their old brethren. I reckon the indigenous Britons were used to this and hence why our langauge assimilated their languages so easily. It was a survival tactic. The view is consistent with the observation that the genetic influence was minimal, less than 25% of the surviving modern gene pool. That all the ancient Brits were driven into Wales is inconsistent with what we see in our languiage and our genes. Am rambling here like...
  18. If you want width in midfield and Carroll / Ameobi up front then you need to choose 2 out of 4 for CM. Guthrie and Nolan are good options but Barton and Smith should be our best pairing.
  19. Taylor made the best save of the match tbf.
  20. Oh, i thought it was poor form not to. Sorry.
