Aye, I've said all along that he doesn't win many headers, which is surprising given his size. He's good as long as he's alongside a player like Bramble who attacks the ball. Likewise Bramble is well-suited to playing alongside someone like Boumsong sweeping up behind him. Mind we paid too much for him, actually we paid too much for both of them. 7348 Yeh, saying he is OK probably means I'm happy with him being shite in the air, but I meant it to say he's not as good as I hoped he would be. Fair point mate about partners but really a central defender has got to get to a ball if he is pulled out of position like he was last night, it's the same as a keeper coming for the ball, if he misses it then he's lost. Seems to be a thing with Newcastle, we never have centre halfs or keepers who dominate the box etc

huge backward step, and even bigger decrease in expectation. Happy with mediocrity eh Gem ?
-
Agreed, and I think Boumsong is OK, he is quick and composed and a canny tackler, but shite in the air.

Pretty much sums up my feelings. 7322 Think this is completely true and accurate. I remember fatso saying sometime last year about how chairmen should be more involved in the buying of players as in the continent. And to add to other conspiracy theories, I guess that Bowyer will also be leaving, he made a big effort to applaud the fans whilst being last man off the pitch last night. Not as theatrical as Robert but bearing in mind Bowyer's interview last week, who knows?? 7328 Well this time last year Shepherd was accused of buying players that Bobby Robson didn't want, but Bobby Robson said recently that that was not the case, they were all his players. And lets face it, he would have every reason to say otherwise if he had wanted to spite Shepherd. Howay man, Souness might be shite, but no one would tell him who to buy or sell.
-
Babayaro, Faye, Moore and who? 7317 Aye, I was jumping the gun and including Viduka [or even Anelka if he sulks after a few months or Souness decides he can't be bothered to manage him], because one thing is for sure now and that is we are going to end up making a panic buy of some sort. And although Boa Morte won't be crap, he isn't good enough for a top team.
-
Very impressed with Emre. Unfortunately Souness, when he says "proper player" doesn't mean talented player, he means player who works hard in training and is a yes man. Irrespective of talent or if they bother to turn up on match days as some of his "proper players" don't. At least Emre will be someone for the next manager. However, playing with 4 central midfield players is stupid however good they are, any 6 year old can tell you that, and a "proper" manager would replace like for like if he was stupid enough to dismantle an established top 5 team. What do you mean ... oh Souness has dismantled a top 5 team ? Oh, right then. The only thing to come out of last night was it re-inforced the fact that he has to go before he does any more damage, he may have bought Emre and Parker but overall his sales and buys prove we can't trust him to make any more. Especially as we are approaching a state of desperation to make signings, and it is all his fault.

Official Match thread: Newcastle v Deportivo
LeazesMag replied to The Mighty Hog's topic in Newcastle Forum
He's sold the 2 players who transformed a one paced team into a team that got the ball behind defences, and not replaced them, so we are now ....... There is 3 weeks before the end of August. Get rid of the useless fucker now and at least a new manager might have a chance of a damage limitation exercise before the season starts. Well done Souness. You have your team, we have the lowest placed team in a decade and are out of europe already too. -
Souness has made 3 crap sales that he shouldn't have made (Bellamy, Robert, Hughes) He's also made 4 crap buys he shouldn't have made. All comes under the banner of "proper players" mate..or something like that, someone should ask him what he means, although we know the answer. It would be interesting to see what he thought was a "proper" manager.

The running of this club just gets worse

do you think when clueless is trashed we will see the end of this phrase "proper player" malarkey

Must admit I am. I loathe The Sun , yet when compared to the Mirror, The Sun doesnt seem as bad, somehow ! But i quite like the Telegraph, hate the Guardian 'cos they're all rabid bull dykes, or islamic fanatics that write for them ! Their football writers are more snottily anti-north-east than any real right wing tory rag even - and the Independent is a waste of paper pulp. The Mail is also pompous, but nowhere near as bad as the Grauniad, the Express a bit better - at least on the football side it is, anyway. Just dont look at the politics or you'll wet yourself laughing or tear it to rags. The Times, well to be honest, I cant recall reading the Times for years. Dont they have that knob Mose or somesuch writing for them ? And didnt MacManaman write for them ? I recall reading his column once and spent most of the time sniggering. And it wasnt meant to be funny. 6911 Fair comment Phil, I don't dismiss any paper on it's sports section just find that certain journos are pompous hacks and some seem to know what they are talking about. I wonder sometimes if some of them, particularly ref the papers which are aimed at people who are more interested in politics and business, if these journos are really not that bothered about football and are just going through the motions and writing about sport because they are assigned it by their editors. I also can't stand Harry Harris, who has an anti NUFC agenda without a doubt. As Dan says, Henry Winters vendetta against Lee Bowyer is now becoming silly. In the words of a player, Bowyer could easily say to Winter "who are you to talk about me like that, you're just a pompous journalist"..and indeed he'd be right. This Louise woman who hates Newcastle because she's a mackem. To put across views such as she does isn't really very professional because she makes it too obvious. I remember spotty Steve Cram hosting one of those quiz shows that showed Collymores last minute winner in the 4-3 game at anfield, and the daft shite said something like "i enjoyed that". Now, when did you ever see an ex Newcastle player making a comment like that about sunderland ? No, I haven't either, because they have gone about their business professionally. I'm not saying I like the Mirror, I don't - their politics are too leftie for me, like the Guardian, but I do like Brian Reade he has a way of saying things which grasp them properly with no punches pulled, even when I don't agree, and he writes political and sport columns in the same way. The Mail is a womans paper. I don't mean that in a sexist way [honestly girls] but it's just full of fashion things and is also an old nazi ultra right wing rag to boot. Of course the other tabloids are rags, in fact all papers are really, mostly they are just something to read on the bog at the end of the day, except the bigger ones take more folding in a confined space. EDIT. Agree with Alex that Glanville is good, he should be as he's been a football commentator and reporter for years, but he is.

Hmmm <<<<<<<< staring at the keyboard weighing up the options >>>>> Do I want to lose to the mackems : No Do I want Souness to get sacked ? OH FFS YES YES YES How soon do I want him sacked ? Yesterday, or before that. Do you think the mackems would like to beat us and trigger another big change in our fortunes ? Ask them, if they do they are daft. What is more beneficial to the club, beating the mackems or getting rid of Souness at at time when someone like Hitzfeld is available, or someone like Wenger might be tempted to walk away, or Sir Alex Ferguson etc etc ie THE RIGHT MAN, HOPEFULLY, then find 3 weeks later they have gone somewhere else while we look at our 3 points off the mackems. Food for thought. We lost to the mackems in 1990 and 1999 and both times it triggered a big chamge for the better.

The more I think of this part of that article, the more I think he has it spot on. "Souness would argue that all those players were in the wrong, just as every referee he lambasts is in the wrong. Because in Souness's head he has to be the winner. He was on the pitch. An unflinching warrior whose trophies back up his self-belief. But as a manager, real, big-time success hasn't arrived. Yet he still has to believe he's the victor. So instead of winning titles he has to win arguments, with compromise a no-go area. " We have a manager who is basically an adequate, and a failure, and he knows it. And he is basically too thick to realise he isn't a winner at all, for peddling players like he does, everyone's a loser. The club, the fans and himself.

Well I can think of a few more mate !! Who's your choice anyway

jailbirds or muslims ?

Indeed. A major reason for that is you didn't let the buggers in there in the first place to do it.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/readeonsport...name_index.html you'll have read this then. Tons better than the "oh but he knows what he's doing" "he'll get it right" "of course the geordies need a cup and Souness has won 2 league cups" "Souness was a winner at Rangers"...blah blah and the usual condescending crap from the london based rags. For instance.
-
that has to be a windup 6627 Why ? Are you a newspaper snob ? Fact is, Reade and Sadler know their football, and they aren't full of their own self importance like some of the others, no matter which paper they write for. For instance, do you think Henry Winter is good, just because he writes for a certain papers, or do you think he's just a self important prick ?
-
coz he's Argentinian ??

Well, I don't think there is any chance of signing Owen. 10 years ago we showed the ambition to sign player like this - and we did - but now, no chance. If I was a top player I wouldn't play for Souness. But I do think that this Mihir Bose is one of the biggest tosser in the world of journalism. Still remember him calling the mackems chairman Bob Reid....quality paper and quality journo - NOT. Best journalist is Brian Reade of the Mirror, and John Sadler of the Sun. Because they are down to earth, say it like it is and get their facts right because they know their football.

Well, I always backed Shepherd due to the fact he has backed his managers with hard cash in the past. And still do in that respect. When he took over as chairman I thought "what a thick ****" we have here". Over the next few years I thought I had got it wrong, see above. Now I realise first impression was right. Shouldn't really have defended Shepherd in the past, because he is thick. He has no common sense, no footballing brain, and no idea of how best to run a football club. He has appointed all his managers on a "rebound" basis ie Dalglish because we previously had a manager who was "tactically naive" [how stupid does that look now?], Gullit because the previous manager was boring, Robson - the only good appointment - but he left him too long in the job, and now Souness the bully because the club "needs to get rid of bad eggs". Not a thought towards appointing a proper manager who was capable of looking at the long term of the club and with a track record of taking clubs that extra mile from being a good team and judging the correct areas to spend money and to man manage top footballers. Now I am sure he knows we have the wrong guy but cannot make himself sack him. having sacked the previous 3 managers in August/September too. Even the "dogs" thing, I turned a blind eye too, because it's only the team that matters to an extent, and lets face it, if we had won cups since then, not one of us would be bothered by it either. Now though, you think about all of this, take it on board, and realise we are a joke [well him, and others at the club, but not the fans] and you can also understand why they see us as a joke. He really has to shut his gob, and start using his head a little. Or go. And the scary thing is, there are a lot worse than him out there, it took us 30 years to get rid of the last lot before him and the Halls. And by Christ, they were a nightmare, far worse than Shepherd.

Oh OK Alex, I see your point, I disagree with you on capital punishment but you are right I certainly think this sort of thing is exactly what jusfies it. But fair enough. The first step is to get them and let's hope they do.

As was mentioned earlier, the wind surfing course in the lake district that you and other softy do gooders think will cure these sort of tendencies ... Until the next time .... Just imagine if they are released Rob, but that's alright so long as they live next door to someone else
