Look, we'll get promoted in a few months. Why sign a player who will need replacing then? We have some players that stand out in this league who will be avg - ok in the Prem (Shola, good example - gash in the prem). Can you imagine what an avg player in this league is like in the prem?

I'll put the house on that we won't

Yeah atleast 5months.

if players want to go they go!

unfortunately we are now in the championship not the championship league anymore.Danny Simpson is a great signing for the club as it is at the current time. IF we was in the premier league i would have a different opion.Who else do we have a right back at the moment?

And why do you think they wanted to go? was it because they could get better money elsewhere? unlikley. It was because we had no ambition, no future plans and were determined to get rid of them. Given, Beye, N'Zog and Milner were all forced out by an owner who could only see £ signs rather than competing.

As for the "IF we was in the premier league i would have a different opion" statement, then what kind of planning is that? fork out for a player who will only get us through the next few months and then not be good enough for the next level.

As has been said before, purchases in January should be made with a view to next season not just be good enough for the remainder of this one. The squad we have is good enough to get us promoted (as long as we dont get any key injuries), trouble is under Fat Man this squad will NOT be the same come February.

I'd like us try and get Beye back on the cheap if we get promoted.

He'd be one of the first names I'd target, which means we'll go through next season with Ryan Taylor at RB again. I don't see owt wrong with keeping Simpson on as a back-up. There's no way Ashley will finance the whole new team that we need so we may as well grasp some squad depth while we can.

From what I've seen Simpson is a better defender than Carr, who was acceptable (when fit) in the Premiership.

His attacking progress is probably stymied by playing behind Guthrie most of the season. In other words having the whole right wing to defend by himself while Guthrie's in the middle.

If we get a quality, chalk on boots, right winger. Maybe even Pancrate gets a propper run and becomes a bigger asset, I'm sure Simpson will start to shine.

Manure signed him for a reason. Fergie has opted for two young brazillian attacking full backs. This change of tactics probably made Simpson surplus to requirements, thus sold to us.

Good defender, poor footballer by the looks of him.

I'm ok with that, defenders to defend etc etc

I think his pace will be useful considering we are generally lacking in that department and if he can learn to cross a little better when he gets forward he'll develop into a decent PL fullback imo

emmm because hes good enough for us? because he should never have been forced out in the first place? because Ashleys a cunt? many a reason frankly.

so let me get this straight JG, you are ready to take back barton with open arms despite never performing for us and repeatedly proving what a shit he is on and off the field but wont take Beye, who regularly performed for us and never drew any negative attention, back because he was sold

you can fuck RIGHT off

actually, Carr's been decent when ive seen him this season. Totally agree that Simpsons a better defender. I do however, think he is pretty wank when in possesion but the same could be said of an awful lot of FB/CB's

Saw a piece on Carr recently. At nufc he was forced back before he was fit every time and as a result, picked up so many other injuries(from overcompensating) that he was fucked.

His 6 months or so out of the game let everything heal properly and he's in fine form and hasn't missed any matches this season(I think).

I think it is great news if we get Danny Simpson on a permanent deal, he will be a quality addition. Hopefully Chris Hughton can look to get in another young player from one of the big Premier League clubs as i think they present a great opportunity to improve the side. The likes of Jay Spearing,Macheda or Jack Wilshere could be given an arena to improve and showcase their skills and bring some enthusiasm and exuberance into the team - in the same way this Championship football blog explains how Henri Lansbury has excelled at Watford. It could be a cheap way to improve the side for the second half of the season.

Danny Simpson eyes Newcastle United deal

DANNY SIMPSON has revealed he will be glad to finally become a fully-fledged Newcastle United player, with a deal for the Manchester United defender imminent.

Chris Hughton has been keeping his cards close to his chest since the January transfer window opened for business at the start of the month.

But the Chronicle understands that United have been putting the final touches to the Simpson deal in the last couple of days.

The addition of Simpson, who is out of contract at the end of the season with Man U, would be deemed a success story in the transfer window for United after moves for Jermaine Beckford and Matt Kilgallon have stalled so far.

And it would kill off the threat of the Salford-born ace making the move to any of the clutch of sides who are also waiting in the wings should the deal collapse at the 11th hour.

The 23-year-old is hoping to fulfil his wish of signing on a permanent deal, and his agent Paul Martin has been in constant dialogue to ensure the Gallowgate favourite finally secures his move.

The conclusion of the deal has been put on hold due to tonight’s FA Cup replay against Plymouth Argyle, and Martin spent most of yesterday completing former United man Gary Caldwell’s switch to Wigan Athletic.

Simpson could be a Newcastle player in time for Monday’s game with West Brom, the day that his loan deal expires and he is due back at Old Trafford.

But with Hughton keen to sign Simpson and Sir Alex Ferguson already giving his seal of approval for a move to Tyneside, the player says he will be relieved when the deal is done and dusted.

He told the Chronicle today: “I’m loving it, and I don’t want it to end.

“It’s been a good first half of the season for me and the team, and to leave that would be a shame.

“I would be disappointed, but hopefully I’ll do enough to get a contract and get everything sorted out and kick start my career.

“The fans are unbelievable, and if I can stay here for the next few years, I would be buzzing.”

But Simpson is fully focused on the task in hand when it comes to the FA Cup tie with the Pilgrims.

He said: “I’m just taking it day by day.

“Stuff’s being sorted out, but I’m just concentrating on the games.

“Around the training ground, day in day out, you have to think about it.

“It’s on your mind, but once you’re on the pitch and playing, you want to win, and you forget about it.

“It does play on your mind, but, at the end of the day, you’re a professional, and you’ve got to put it out of your mind.

“Hopefully, you’re thinking ‘it’ll happen, but at the same time, it might not’.”

Still has a fat head though.

His greatest contribution to the NUFC cause were his efforts as a Spurs players in some classic Newcastle victories.

But good luck to him. They're in fine form at the moment and I hope they continue to perform.
