England v USA

I understand what you're saying Mr.Fish and agree to some degree but when you consider that some of the Yankee players are on the books of Frankfurt, Hanover, Gladbag, Rennes, Rangers, Everton, Fulham, Aston Villa, Wolves, Hull, Bolton, West Ham, they must have shown something to get signed on, and that's why I say we shouldn't take them lightly. in fact no team in the World Cup should be taken lightly as surprising results happen.

Compared to England whos players are on the books of Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, Aston Villa, Man United, West Ham and Portsmouth.

Only two of those clubs finished below any of the English clubs that have Americans and they only account for 3 players, one of them being the third choice keeper. I automatically ignore those that play in Scotland as its the equivalent of a kick about in a middle school playground.

Right old battle of the threads goin on here innit Stevie?

This is the match thread. <_< You can imagine the yank press making this in to 1854 or whenever it was when those mugs got their independence, they always seem to forget it was English v English in essence, so no they didn't win, same as they didn't win the Vietnam War, and never win any war without our help.

More like 1950, but whatever. I'm not one to split hairs. ;)

Only yanks count that one, we hit the post 7 times apparently. The people at the end of the telegram line thought there was a mistake in the message they thought it was USA 1 England 10, and a one had been missing off. We could've given the Italians a run for their money for arrogance back then.

Maybe so... but we had our arses well and truly kicked by them back in 1994...

93 wasn't it, I can still visualise Alexei Lalas' header. We lost to them then played really well against Brazil and Germany.

Might have been '93. I remember Ince was captain as they were making a big thing about 'England's first black captain'...

We got tonked though.

Yeah, it was the U.S Cup in '93, a mini tournament to get the yanks upto speed before USA'94

BTW I think one of the real reasons we suffered under Taylor's regime was Shearer's injury. I know the likes of Wright and Ferdinand have been talked about as people who missed out on account of Shearer and Sheringham particularly but both those had their chances in 92/93 and neither seemed to cut it.

Also Gascoigne was nowhere near his best when he came back from his injury too.

Right. The Yank press is making it into that, instead of 1854(?). That was my point.

I generally disregard sporting results that didn't take place in my lifetime as precursors for results. Can't wait for the match Saturday. ;)

Shouldn't take them too lightly, 19 of their squad are on the books of overseas clubs.

8 with English clubs.

2 with a Scottish club.

3 with German clubs.

2 with Mexican clubs

1 with Italian club

1 with French club

1 with Norwegian club

1 with Danish club.

only 3 are with Yankee clubs, Donavon who plays for the LA Galaxy being one of them.

Not being funny Noelie, but The Gooch is the yank in Italy and despite being noble hasn't really done anything. Also, I wouldn't be wholly impressed by an American plying his trade in 4 of the leagues you mention.

He missed (nearly) the entire season with a knee injury.

I think Stevie was suggesting that the USA won independence from Britain in 1854 ;)

They played Australia in a friendly last Saturday and although they won 3-1, it was the battle of two fucking woeful teams.

If England is to do well this WC finals and I think they will, they will batter the Yanks leaving them looking like a plaster's radio.

Was it not then? Forgive me, 1854 was in my head for some reason, but we only learn the history of areas of the world which are interesting like the Roman Empire.

More classic knowledge from The Fish <_< I'd miss him if he didn't post. Mind Gooch is shite though.

I remember the Peanut Farmer visiting Washington as part of the Bicentenial celebraions in 1976.

But I am an old fart ;)
