Liverpool's record signing Andy Carroll is a doubt to face his former club due to the knee injury he suffered a fortnight ago.

Teenage full-back Jack Robinson could again deputise for Glen Johnson.

Newcastle are expected to stick with Tim Krul in goal despite Steve Harper recovering from a knee injury.

Liverpool

Doubtful: Carroll (knee), Johnson (hamstring)

Injured: Agger (knee), Aurelio & Kelly (both hamstring),

Gerrard (groin)

Newcastle

Doubtful: Nolan (groin)

Injured: Ben Arfa (broken leg), Best, Ireland & Smith (all ankle), Gosling (knee), Guthrie (shin)

Head-to-head

• A Liverpool victory would be their 50th league win in 75 games against the Magpies at Anfield.

• The Reds have beaten Newcastle 19 times in Premier League history and are 15 games unbeaten against them at Anfield, winning the last five.

• Newcastle are looking to complete a first league double over the Reds since the 1993/94 season. Rob Lee and Andrew Cole scored in their last success at Anfield, a 2-0 victory in April 1994.

• The Magpies' 3-1 win at St James' Park in the reverse fixture was Alan Pardew's first game in charge of Newcastle.

Liverpool

• The Reds have taken 27 points from their last 13 matches.

• Liverpool are the only Premier League club to have scored in all their Premier League fixtures (16) in 2011.

• Dirk Kuyt has scored seven goals in the club's last six league matches. He will become the seventh Reds players to score in four successive Premier League games if he nets against Newcastle.

• If selected, Sotirios Kyrgiakos and Maxi, last week's hat-trick hero, will be making their 50th Liverpool appearances in all competitions.

Newcastle

• The Magpies have won only one of their last seven away league matches, a 2-0 victory at Birmingham during February.

• Victory would see Newcastle become the only Premier League side to record wins away to both Merseyside clubs this season.

• Merseyside-born Joey Barton is the only visiting player to have been sent-off twice at Anfield in Premier League history. He saw red for Manchester City in 2006 and for Newcastle three years later.

Yeah truth is their defence is still shit. At least that means we should have a goal in us. Hopefully Barton plays well he has had a few poor games in recent weeks. Is due for a return to form.

Their team is hardly the worlds best. Going forward Suarez and Johnson are their main threats. I dont see why we cant nick a point here if we could do it against manchester. Carroll bound to come off the bench and rape us though .

Im guessing 0-1 Carroll.

Howaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy!!!!!!! From being in a state of hungover pessimism, see our team sheet there has given me new hope. Our midfield IS BETTER than their's don't care what anyone says it is. We have a chance today, especially with it being a 12 o'clock kick off. The dippers will be wrecked, shite atmosphere apart from the 3,300 Newcastle fans in the Anfield Road End. 0-1. Howay. What we need to do is get hold of it in the first 5 mins, remember when we played Arsenal, first 15 minutes Arsenal didn't get a kick, just slow tempo knock it about, we're better footballers than them in midfield, that's not being deluded neither.

I got on the BBC page with my twitter,

TOONLOWDOWN on Twitter: "Shola Ameobi will show Andy Carroll how it's done today and Newcastle United will snatch the draw!"

Come on!

Which Shola turns up is the pivotal factor in this game, if it's the real Shola we're fucked, if it's the five times a year Shola, it could be a good day.

Krul - Simpson - Coloccini - Williamson - Enrique - Barton - Nolan - Tiote - Jonas - Lovenkrands - Ameob

8 of that side played the reverse match back in December. We had Campbell & Taylor at the centre of defence instead of Colo & Williamson and obviously Carroll instead of Lovenkrands.

Stupid really when you consider the sale of one player has completely zapped our confidence and enthusiasm but I guess that's the Ashley effect.
