So it feels like Labour are forcing cuts and budget problems through the public sector and letting the chips fall where they will. How many people's lives are getting fucked up by this nonsense man.

The bottom line is most Western governments are just Ponzi schemes scraping by with all their credit cards maxed out.  There’s very little any shade of politician can do “within the accepted rules” to change anything.

Much higher taxes, privatising the NHS etc All the things no politician will properly go near because they want to hang around for another 5 years.

My lass, a teacher of 25 years, had the word redundancy chucked at her recently. The pay rises that teachers have had recently, and the ones currently being decided upon have involved no additional funding from government who just say the schools need to find it from their existing budgets. Which as you can imagine, are already stretched further than they should go.

It's fucking ridiculous.

My lass runs a procurement consultancy for schools - basically assisting them in tenders for services such as catering, cleaning, ICT, etc. She too makes this point about pay rises and said it was utterly ridiculous when the national wage was hiked significantly that there was no additional funding for the schools from government. Basically they had to pay the staff more with the same budgets meaning that resources that were already stupidly stretched were even more so.

This is where Reagan & Thatcher’s “reforms” have ended up. We’re being hung out to dry by those this pair of cunts sold functioning government out to. Reform are going to have a significant say in our future. That means that process accelerating towards a future unlike those who have gone before us. A good few of us on here are in our 50s. Am willing to bet our retirements won’t be as comfortable as our parents’ are/were. And your kids and grandkids’ standard of living won’t be as high as ours. This is all planned.

As far as I can see there is absolutely zero difference between the economic policies of Labour and the Cameron/Osborne government

The only point of difference is Cameron and Osbourne admit Brexit is a disaster

For real. This is austerity. They're not calling it that, but it's what it is. This was what Labour wanted to do last time around too but lost out to Corbyn - it's why there was such a pushback then.

In a way, we need people to be honest with where the country is - but no one can accept this because the honesty is selective. Yes, Labour, you can tell me that the country is fucked and has to do this - and I'll understand - but only if you're also very honest about how much worse Brexit has made this. Because if you're not prepared to do that, then I'm not prepared to accept very much of this at all, since no lessons are being learned.

Everyone is a career politician these days. They gear themselves up to attain power by demonstrating how bad the incumbent is and once they're in power, the focus shifts to do concentrate on retaining power - not by using their position to enact real, positive change, but to issue diatribes against the alternative.

They all do it, as well.

Long-term vision appears to be a ideal of the past.

As an aside from my normal political views, this is a non-partisan view I have as well. Long term planning would absolutely make this country a better place. Every time someone mentions it I'm reminded of fucking Sunak when he was chancellor, claiming that he couldn't contribute 15bn to help kids catch up on lost learning time following Covid, despite being told that the long term cost to the nation of this loss to these kids would be 300bn or so. It's a prime example of this short termist nonsense that damages us constantly.

We absolutely do need a better class of politician.

This is exactly what has happened at the bairn’s school. His dad is a teacher there (also 25yrs) and they’re “restructuring” meaning they they’re looking for redundancies and demoting people from leadership roles without discussion or explanation. Unions are now involved.  It also happened earlier in the year at another local Catholic secondary. It’s an absolute shambles.

I think this is just the norm now tbh. This is just the standard operating procedure for the “uniparty”.  They are in hock to global system that is about to be changed forever by Trumpism. A Reform dominated coalition with what’s left of the tories will see the likes of Palantir being presented with all relevant data they require to subjugate our entire population. National Insurance will be abolished but our taxation level will remain  the same and we’ll have to find private health cover. This is what Farage and Tice have been trailing since the local government elections last week.

I watched Tice on QT last night, the first time I'd watched it in yonks. Honestly, I think he is completely out of tune with the large majority of the public. His climate change denial went down like a bucket of sick, and this was in Hull iirc. People are idiots, yes, but no way will they be prepared to let the NHS go. That's what Labour need to attack them on, there's plenty of ammo. I honestly don't see them as the threat people think they are. One trick pony and even that trick, Farage, is disliked or hated by most. Those MRP results will never materialise imo.

But aye, never been more despondent with Labour or politics otherwise. Like a Newcastle team under Bruce, I want to believe but every bit of evidence I see tells me not to.

It's mental because the schools don't have enough staff as it is, but they're laying permanent staff off and replacing them with supply teachers and newly qualifieds (who will probably leave teaching within 5 years anyway because it's such a broken profession) cos it's cheaper. It's such a fucking mess.

The schools obviously don't want to do it, but they're in an impossible position because their budgets are fixed and the govt is telling them to magic up pay rises from an unchanging total. It's criminal.

Mate, they’re blatant and obvious manipulative snake oil salesmen. They’re telling enough people precisely what they want to hear though. That’s what Trump knew and did. We’re not immune because we’re British.

We're also not American, we are not yet that debased. Farage is demonstrably aligned with Trump and Putin, two figures hated here. In the US they liked the Apprentice and half don't even know who Putin is. Farage is on record as saying he wants shot of the most treasured institution in the UK, the NHS. I think it suited Labour to let Reform eat the Tories last election, but it won't next one when the gloves are off. It's a long, long way away. Anything could happen, most likely Reform won't be able to keep any semblance of professionalism iyam.

You'd like to think so but we voted for Brexit, and we gave Johnson a massive majority

I was thinking about Labour's achievements earlier.

The welfare state and the NHS obviously

Even Blair and Brown brought in the minimum wage, huge things for

the benefit of the working class

This lot don't deserve to call themselves Labour
