Question for @Monkeys Fist - would?

There's a touch of Salma about her if you can forget the fact she's a horrible tory cunt.

:o
I’ll forgive this, as you’re looking at the pic upside down.

And yes, right up the Boris, no lube.

According to Twitter the sole heir of the Colston family doesn’t even have a problem with it. But of course Patel does

If they’re a fan of being dry-bummed, that’s their choice.

The Ali-Parkinson interviews are great like. Ali could be stroppy and awkward at times but even then he was usually right

I'm sure BLM will be delighted that Johnson has weighed in on this. Basically a load of nonsense about how 'he gets it' and then some stuff about telling everyone to follow the rules that he and his advisors, and apparently Parliament itself, are able to break.

Sounds like Cecil Rhodes' statue is up next. He was apparently heavily pro-colonialism. I'm not entirely sure any of our historical figure statues are going to survive this purge tbh  Iconoclasm is a weird thing to see in modern times.

Sadiq Kahn is ordering a review of all street names, statues, whatever in London presumably with a view to changing any of them linked to slavery. IMO, this protest has achieved more significant change here than it has in the US.

I'm afraid that if you look through history you'll find that an awful lot of your historical figures held distasteful views when looked at today. While the statue of Colston obviously deserved to come down it's going to be very tricky to say where to draw the line.

By and large, I'm against this. You can't

judge the cultural norms of the 18th century by today's standards. If there are some particularly dubious characters,  by all means censor them. But for others just have educational plaques.

The other thing is, will this just mask the real issues. It's all symbolic, none of this will changes the political reality of today under the conservatives though. There are more important things in the here and now that need desperate attention. Coronavirus, Brexit, working rights, and massive inequality of which race is mainly a proxy rather than a cause.
