Theres a old theatre in the Bournemouth suburb of Boscombe which in the 90s was a club of note called the Academy. It hosted the club night called Slinky which had all the notable handbag merchants play at it eg Healy, George, Fontaine etc etc. At some point O2 took it and turned it into one of their live music venues . The first person to play it after the change was Jimmy Cliff and when he performed this it appeared to be for many a near religious experience 😓

Aye it is. Very sad. Cause of death unknown. Family have asked people not to speculate - he had mental health and drink problems according to the article.

There was a piece recently (think it was in the Sunday Times) about his struggles with alcoholism and mental health. He was very good friends with Shane Warne too as they played together for Hampshire. One of my heroes due to his skill and bravery, particularly in an era when he was going up against loads of top class fast bowlers. And one of the few shining lights in a dodgy England batting line up. The power of his square cut was immense. Very sad news
