That’s a complete myth tbh. The Brazilian league was arguably the best in the world at that time. Santos won back to back Copa Libertadores and Intercontinental Cups to help prove that. So he didn’t just excel in Brazil in he won four international trophies at club level. For context, Santos have won 8 in their history. He was the best player in the world when he was 17, scored fucking outrageous goals winning the World Cup at that age. 12 years later, he was past his best, after nearly a decade and a half of playing year round football and a ridiculous amount of games. But he was still the best player in the best international side ever. The NASL era was just a bit of retirement money tbh. Same for the likes of Cruyff and Beckenbauer. He could handle himself as well as Maradona could too.

Ive always thought this.

And obviously I've only watched him on videos but just the way he played man, he could do absolutely everything. The way he could stand in a 5 yard space and beat 3 international defenders was incredible. It's hard to make a case against Messi for the all time great now but not even he or Maradona dribbled past people in the way Pele did, or navigated the ball in close spaces, casually flicking the ball over people's heads and what not

Wasn't there a video someone did when Pele died, showing Pele do every trick or flick before another great of the game that the thing would usually be associated with; from Cruyff to Maradona to Ronaldinho to Zidane. The man was football itself.

Nearly as funny as the name of the BBC journalist covering the story.

Messi was never a step over, tricky type of player though. When prime messi was on a run the ball was literally glued to his foot, and he was incredibly difficult to knock off the ball. He used to go past the full 11 opposition players on his way to goal. Probably, still does but in the MLS it doesn’t count. So he did it just differently to Pele, the kid is a fucking wizard.

I honestly don’t get the greatest arguments though (even though I tongue in cheek involved myself in one earlier) because it’s subjective and everyone has a different reason for why they feel it’s Pele, Maradona etc. You could argue that Pele couldn’t have hacked the modern game as defenders are fitter, bigger, stronger and faster than in his day. Then again, he was intelligent and could adapt. Maradona would have done an Eriksen in his first month in the modern game as the intensity and the Charlie combined.

Defenders may be bigger, faster and stronger these days but they can't kick lumps out of you like Pele had to deal with, the fucker's would never get the ball off him.

Yes but it's fun to jump into every now. It's hard to argue against Messi tbh, even before the World Cup win I thought he'd done enough. What I think most reasonable people should agree on is that Ronaldo shouln't even feature in this conversation ;) (CR7 of course, the Brazilian lad I have a lot of time for)

A good excuse to watch this again:

When he plays one-twos with the defenders legs and stuff like that. You’d think it was a fluke but he did it so often.  This is the clip I think you meant btw:

Jeremy Vine is suing him for repeatedly calling him a nonce, and Aluko is suing him for making up shit about her family. Basically, he's fucked and we'll get to see him play to the gallery of white incels who hang out the back of him on gb news very soon.

It's good to see grifters like him and Fox getting sued into bankruptcy, but it's baffling that yet more grifters are lining up behind them despite the warning signs being clear as fucking day.

The little meff is fucking skint already .

The fact he is 'standing against defamation' over a tweet Vine posted asking if Barton maybe has a brain injury (an easy one to defend, given all the CTE conversations over the past few years), yet doesn't want to accept responsibility for repeatedly calling Vine a paedophile - "Ring 999 if he cycles past your kids primary school" etc (impossible to defend, the dopey scouse cunt) and accusing Aluko's dad of accepting 'dodgy money' to fund her education and lifestyle (completely baseless), is fucking hilarious to me since I can see how badly it's going to end for him.

What is the betting that every penny of those raised funds came from sweaty, white virgins?

No one ever accused them of being intelligent tbf - Despite Barton's Harvard college philosophy professor phase after he read a Chomsky book:
