Nobody fucked with John Burridge he’d rip your head off

I took mrs tbd and the 3 month old baby tbd to the manor ground against oxford in october '90.

we were quite near the back of the cuckoo lane end which admittedly wasn't massive but you could hear every single profanity which came out his mouth in crystal.clarity. which was basically every word he uttered. hilarious, loved the fucker me.

I remember the Smith sacking season after the failed promotion attempt in 1990, I'm sure it was early on against West Ham and we'd started the season off points wise but Budgie had an absolute brain fart pope would've been proud of and just went out to get a ball he had no chance of getting and doubling down on his mistake trying to stop the attacker before it eventually went into an empty goal. We got beat and the season unravelled pretty quickly after that.

Similar experience at Hull in the 3rd round of the FA Cup earlier that year.

Pope will know his time here is up if/when fans boo his name when line ups announced before KO….so Eddie drop him before it’s too late

Ridiculous amount of stick that Pope is getting.  He's been a fantastic keeper for us since he arrived.  Given is the only keeper I've seen for us who compares to him, I loved Pav but come on he wasn't a top class keeper.  Pope is going through a bad spell, which has cost us in the last three away games (and could have cost us early on against city), and the concerning thing is his decision making more than anything else.  He should be dropped now because if players aren't performing they shouldn't retain their place in the team, and what would be the point of bringing Ramsdale to the club if we're not prepared to play him when the other player in his position is out of form.  But honestly, I thought I'd accidently clicked on twitter rather then toontastic when I read some of the shit over the last few pages.

It’s not ridiculous as good as he’s been he is now liability and needs dropping before it’s too late. As I said earlier if Eddie persists in playing him and he drops a bollock at SOL that’s Pope finished the fans will not forgive him, he needs taking out now and worked on by GK  coaches

Since Pope arrived he’s always given me nightmares when charging out of his box

Re: Hooper, according to Pedro, who seen him at Liverpool and Newcastle, he was absolutely class in training and a very ly talented keeper. But he just lacked the bottle and mentality to play in front of large crowds under that sort of pressure

IIRC Hooper played a couple times against us for Liverpool before he came to us and was class. I think half his challenge was that Pav was a cult hero and the fans didn't take well to him being replaced by someone who wasn't significantly better.

Hooper wasn't anything special, but he wasn't as bad as was made out.

When you think about it he was one of only two keepers purchased by Keegan in 5 years - the other being Hislop.

Saying someone is out of form isn't ridiculous at all, in fact I've said the very same thing.  But someone being out of form doesn't make him a keeper on the level of Mike fucking Hooper or any of the other borderline competent keepers he has been compared to over the last few pages.

We tried to sign Trafford and ultimately brought in Ramsdale because it's obvious that there is an area of Pope's game that is weak, his ability with his feet.  Pope ended last season and started this season well, hence winning his place back in the England squad, so there has not been any need/opportunity to bring in Ramsdale.  Now the opportunity is there and it's in the teams, and probably Pope's best interests to make the change.  But that doesn't change the fact that he has been very good for most of his time here.

Keegan wasn't very good at buying keepers unfortunately.  Neither of them two were remotely close to being top class.  If we'd had a keeper close to Schmeichel's quality we'd have probably won the league.  Not that those sort of keepers grow on trees.

If only we’d been presented with a gold opportunity to sign Schmeichel 3-4 years before he signed for Man Utd, eh?

if I was pope I'd probably be asking to be taken out the firing line at this point.

straight of the top of me head i can think of 6 absolute howlers he's made that's cost us goals this season.

and before anybody pipes up with him having made some decent saves too...

good, that's his fucking job.

his ludicrous decision making has become a massive liability, last night's wasn't an anomaly, he's done similar on multiple occasions when coming out his box.

Pope is just going through a bad patch. He is still a good keeper (bar the kicking). It’s whether Eddie decides he is in the last chance saloon. I think he’ll start at the weekend hoping that the blunders are behind him.

He’ll definitely start at the weekend mostly because Eddie can be a bit bloody minded when it comes to this sort of stuff.

Can we at least all agree that him turning and chasing Aubameyang and SCREAMING at him to try and out him off was fucking hilarious?

I sort of respect that he's prepared to do that in a way, make himself look even more stupid to try and salvage anything at all

FWIW I think its harsh on Pope all of this. I watched on TV too so its hard to see how much space there was when pope left his box - the commentary on our whatsapp group from lads there was that he'd not been stranded when we lost the ball , but ran out from his box when he saw ab was going to break away (i'm not even going to try and spell it).

Yes he made a mistake, but he's clearly been coached and told to play sweeper keeper and one on one with Ab , he made the decision to try close it down .

Howe didnt play Dubs because dubs was almost glued to his line.

If pope makes the right choice, and brings on a transition that results in a goal no one notices.
No one gives any credit for the quick release throwing he has consistently done since he arrived etc.

And at least this time he didnt handle it and get sent off like before the cup final :(
