Not at all saying they're not being looked after, but it's different having the ear of someone who can make decisions rather than just someone who can represent your interests. I've worked directly under a CEO and also in middle management, and I'd take the former every time in terms of ability to get shit I needed and feeling attached to the direction of the business. I think it needs to be someone from the executive really, someone on the board.

Aye I agree but that's not really a role that players should have any reasonable expectation would exist at the club. One of the owners there to cuddle them after the match and give them life advice and stuff. No other PL club has that.

Absolutely brilliant that it was there for a while and clearly made a massive difference to some players and to Howe and his team. And it was probably needed at that time, but not sustainable.

I totally get that it was a massive wrench when she went but that specific thing thst she was providing can't be directly replaced.

That's part of the job of the DoF isn't it? It isn't practical to have the person tasked with running the club performing the role. Mandy was perfect for the job because she's 100% a people person and as a woman was perhaps a bit more interested in the players' home lives but we saw what happens when the roles of 'best mate' and decision maker are combined when she promised Isak a contract that she should have known we couldn't afford.

She covers it off in this interview that player recruitment was somewhat easier back then given they were effectively starting from a position of nothing to very little - so each acquisition considered was an improvement. We now have an extremely good squad so identifying opportunities to improve it is naturally more challenging.

I think there's a degree of rose-tintedness because the previous ownership was so detatched from the supporter base and for such a prolonged period of time that her sense of community, and this view that they were custodians rather than owners played right to the soul of a large proportion of our fanbase.

She sounds as though, as a result of her diagnosis, that she can be somewhat of a shit with zero filter. I'm making the assumption of 'separate bedrooms because of arguments' might have been largely her doing. That considered, I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall at the PL owners meetings where she addressed what she thought of the cunty cartels trying to restrict our progress.

Our game on Sunday should be a thriller based off that

Fair play, that's a nice message. And he had the gumptiom to leave any mention of the rat out of the bit about the cup final.

I noticed that straight away.

whatever you think of the bloke, and there are plenty who have criticised him for various reasons, he oversaw the best time most of us can remember on the pitch - two CL campaigns and a cup win. he seemed to love his time here and went beyond the call of duty staying on for a year after receiving a devastating diagnosis. good luck to him
