GrahamTaylor5 1783
This is good. Might not feel it but it is. Has Liverpool taken the piss? Yes. Isak was finished with us. We have at least £125m out of it. That is actually remarkable given the shit show that has gone on. I think he will be a big success at Liverpool which will add salt to the wound. He is no longer our problem. Hopefully Big Nick will be a great replacement and we can move on from it. Isak did some great things for us but I was still.waiting for the finished product. Let us not forget the great things he did that got us to where we are now. Let us also not forget that he would also spend 50-60 mins most games running in random directions and getting completely gassed before being hooked. 2
OTF 10613
The truly annoying thing is that it's pretty clear that Man City are not going to get their act in gear this season, and Arsenal are still the same Arteta Arsenal. Could it be possible for Chelsea to somehow finally turn their insane spending into a cohesive squad? I've never hoped so until now. It will not be easy to see the RAT lifting the Premier League Trophy which even at this early stage of the season is looking likely. We know they have the full support of the league and of the referees.

Doubt it will happen but Jackson would have an extra degree of motivation to succeed in this league. We could build a squad as empowered by anger and bitterness as this board, what could go wrong?

Craig 12383
Being completely pragmatic, him staying wasn't a realistic option. It would do us no good and I suspect, would be quite damaging. As much as it pains me to say it, we needed to negotiate his exit. The best outcome would have been for someone to sign him permanently - the only way we were ever going to extract maximum revenue out of this situation and if we didn't do that, then we'd be losing on all sides. Next best would have been a loan move. Least palatable - him staying and rotting out the place. It stinks to high heaven but, given all the circumstances, selling him is regrettably the least painful outcome.

Even if we let him rot until next summer he wouldn't become worthless. Right now Liverpool were the only club interested but with 10 months to prepare there would have been a glut of clubs bidding to sign him. Even if we got less than £125m we'd have made a massive stand on principal. If there's one thing I expected by our Saudi overlords it's doing what is morally right. A glut of clubs willing to pay £100m+ for a player that hadn't played for a year? I think that's overly hopeful. There would be no big clubs willing to spend on a stroppy wanker who was willing to waste a year of his career because he didn't get his own way IMO. It was either sell now, or lose out further down the line.

It was either sell now, or lose out further down the line. I agree on this. Having seen his behaviour in the off-season I'm now fully convinced that he was not fully committed to the cause in the tail end of last season. He actually would have preferred if we didn't qualify for the champion's league as it would have made his exit a lot easier. I said this weeks ago and was partially joking, but his actions have confirmed it. He would never have been properly trying for us again, and even the consumate professional Howe would not have been able to course correct his flawed character. Thankfully even with him only going through the motions and Wilson finished we managed to scrape the champion's league qualification. If we sign a striker to go with Woltemade then combined with the other good signings we've made I'm still confident that we can make this a very positive season and build on it further. He’s made himself publicly available all summer but only one club has bid for him. I’m not sure where this glut of clubs would have come from. Even Chelsea didn’t have a sniff around despite supposedly wanting a striker, being in the CL, winning £100m at the club World Cup and being seemingly immune to PSR constraints.

There has been massive uncertainty as to whether Isak would actually be made available to move. Most organised clubs already had their targets and budgets sorted going into the window. Give clubs more time to prepare and there would definitely be more interest, particularly from the likes of PSG and Real Madrid I would guess.

I think keeping him would have been detrimental for a load of reasons though. There’s no scenario in which there is a perfect solution after the player basically refuses to play for us again but I think selling him now is probably the best one from an NUFC point of view. Which is the most important thing really. It doesn’t feel remotely satisfying though
