This must be injury related with Tripps and Willock not selected on the bench. Combined with missing Big Joe this makes me very nervous now.

See Howe saying Joelinton went to Barcelona last week for an injection in his knee. I wonder if we'll be breaking the emergency glass next weekend if things don't go our way today.

Willock is an absolute donkey at this point. He’s making Wilson look durable

If we could get our £25m back on him in the summer, he'd be a good signing (on paper) for a newly promoted team.

If things don’t go our way today I suspect we’re most likely fucked regardless tbh @Gemmill Today was the day to play Big Joe if we could, especially now with more injuries. I don’t expect to see him again this season.

I could be wrong of course probably am but I don’t think we’d have played a back three if we hadn’t had the injuries. Howe tinkers very seldom. And Chelsea are shit. In a straight up fight we win. Don’t need to pull a surprise or play funny buggers with weird tactics.

I dunno. Have we gone conservative to settle for a draw? Or try to at least. It’s a bit of a concern. Also have to worry about when we knew Tripps and Willock would miss the game. Hopefully all week so they’ve managed to prepare this setup. I’d say that has happened. So we have a chance. But it definitely isn’t ideal.

Back 4 Big Dan left Tino right looks ok Gordon & Barnes could be lethal on the left together leaving Murphy to give them bother on the right

Only other time we did this was Arsenal at home and we beat them 2 nowt and absolutely weren't going defensive - not really Howe's thing anyway. If we were thinking defensively, we wouldn't have all of Murphy, Barnes and Gordon starting.

We'll see what happens but we've seen some Eddie Howe masterclasses this year, let's hope this is another one!

We can definitely still make CL if we blow it today, we only need 6 points. Makes it harder though.

It’s a must not lose game draw would be a pisser but not a disaster but I’m going for 3-1 Eddie master class win

Fingers crossed. I’m more inclined to see it as a tactical tweak to more defensive setup driven by injuries. Doesn’t mean it won’t work. Doesn’t mean we won’t attack where appropriate and try to win. Maybe it’s the best way to win with the players available. Hopefully it works out.

Didn’t realise it was a lunchtime kickoff which is good news because that means I’ll get to listen to it albeit in a service station car park

anyway, here’s a little pre-match aperitif to get The Chelsea hate juices flowing…

Whatever the result there'll be someone explaining how and why it happened on YouTube after the event.

Some right pissy pants in here today. Isak, Gordon and Barnes to show Palmer how cold it can be in Newcastle when you lose.

That’s what I think, the three best goalscorers at the club are on the pitch from the start :good:

After all that @Gemmill. We’re warming up in a back 4.

If I had to bet on it, I’d say that they’re bluffing in the warmup and we’re playing a back 3. The masterclass has already begun!

If nowt else it'll have thrown some confusion into the blue cheats gameplan

Think there’s something in this….as someone has said it could be a back four with Burn at LB 😱
