We just need to sail in and offer the release clause. If Longstaff is going out the door, it's the difference give or take a few coins down the back of the sofa.

Liverpool and (of course) Mackem fans have clearly been hijacking the Sky Sports poll.

This lad is a prick. Firstly, if we trigger the release clause then that likely means the money has to be paid up front, something that is a problem for any club including us. Secondly, the player can tell Frankfurt that he has no intention of joining us and only wants to go to Liverpool. It isn't always a case of who offers the most wins.

We don't have a dilemma though?

Jesus wept! Someone should inform the cunts at Sky that we don't have a striking dilemma, Liverpool do. What a croc of bollocks!

No but you have to have players who buy into the club. I don't think Liverpool will have it as easy this year because Slot is trying to bring in his own players to prove he hasn't just won the league with Klopps team. Regardless, they'll probably offer higher wages anyway.

You get that once they're here though. Pick any of the lads who are now stars in our team and totally bought in to the place (Bruno, Tonali, Botman, etc), and had they been given a straight choice between us or Liverpool when they were joining, none of them would be here. And that's fine, it's totally understandable.

Given the straight choice, any player without a previous affiliation to either club would prefer them. In the last 10 years, they've won:

PL x 2

CL

FA Cup

League Cup x 2

In the last 70 years, we've won one domestic trophy.

We can't be in a huff if players prefer to join a club that has a much better recent record than us.

Aye. We should probably leave him alone after this but I foresee another approach next summer when it doesn’t work out a Liverpool. 😂

It's a problem for the vermin, they want Isak (not happening) but their only glimmer of hope is we get Ekitike and it turns out he's a replacement. They buy Ekitike out from under us and they extinguish their (imaginary) glimmer of hope.

Well, technically dilemma usually means a choice between equally bad selections. I dont see the thurd option as being bad here.

Honestly though, time we scrapped PSR and stopped treating players as chattel.

Sky claiming that if Isak doesn't go this summer he is /very likely/ to go next summer.

None of them know anything, if you could flat out ask they'd have nothing.

The Athletic have got an article about "Newcastle's Isak dilemma" as well which opens with the "conundrum" we face.

They're so used to asking "what difficult decision does lesser club A need to make now that favoured club B would like one of their assets?"

Maybe he is. But if 5 weeks on Monday he's in a black & white shirt alongside Isak ripping seven shades of shit out of van Dijk & Konate and we pick up 3 points I'll forgive him for being a prick.

And yes, that can be seen as being fanciful, but don't burst that bubble just yet

Finding this tedious now which is a shame cos it should be exciting. Hopefully it wraps up today one way or another.

I think MF had it spot on when we were first in for the lad. I.e. his surname sounds like the noise you make when you’re tickling a baby or a toddler.

One of the journos (can't remember which one) made a point of saying his surname is palindromic. Like that has any relevance to why we should sign him.

I'm finding this transfer saga quite tedious, I don't want to be duking it out with Liverpool in a dutch auction, to sign some moody french beanpole who probably has no intention of playing for us ever. Im getting flashbacks to the Guehi debacle last summer and I really havent got the stamina for this shit. I much preferred the days when the first we knew about a new signing was the press conference.
