Not to burst your bubble, but you're advocating rehabilitation and using the Bulger trial as an example? really? (unless I've got it wrong in which case ignore this)

that would be the killers who used their new/fake id's to go on holidays unsupervised, one got rearrested for child porn charges and is currently back in jail, barred from liverpool..but went anyway including to matches.

not a shining example of rehabilitation really, in some cases rehabilitation is fine, there's a difference between being a moron drink driving and knocking someone down, horrendous but probably more likely to be rehabilitated than killing/injuring over 70 people.

As far as Breivik goes he should be locked in a very dismal cell for the rest of his life, with an hours recreation a day, perhaps in a caged footy pitch without a ball.

The cell he's been given is an utter joke if the pictures are accurate, it's nicer and better equipped than most rooms students spent 3-4 years in for uni.

i'm not against the death penalty fwiw, whatever makes the affected people feel better/think is suited is fine by me, personally i'd want to snap him in two and let him rot in agony with no hope of ever leaving the 6x4 room he's been locked in. It shouldn't be down to the victims obviously but there sure as fuck shouldn't be any sort of chance of ever getting out for someone like that.

i'm not sure if i stated it or not, but the Blake Morrison book was published in 1994, in the immediate aftermath of the trial.

also, i believe venables & thompson were punished (as morrison states in his book) by being tried in an adult court & sent to prison, rather than an attempt at rehabilitating them.

as regards breivik, i've stated several times that Norwegian cultural norms & values are at variance to ours; this is why non Norwegians may find it difficult to accept the punishment he has been given.
