Not only a song set exclusively in Tyneside, it fucking charts a journey from the centre of Newcastle out west towards Blaydon. Sunderland is in opposite direction yet it's about them?
-
Couple of things about these retarded morons: 1. Elvis never released a track called "Wise Men Say". If you're going to stake claim to something, at least know the title and don't just recite the first line. 2. They've no more claim of ownership to this than we do with Hey Jude ... which we stake absolutely no claim of ownership on. Absolute fucking melts.
-
Apart from that they claim the author of the song. Because Tyneside born, George ‘Geordie’ Ridley was from Gateshead, which was then in Durham. Which is another odd one given that (much like Blaydon itself) it’s overwhelmingly black and white. So aye, a Tyneside song set exclusively in Tyneside written by a Tyneside is, in fact, a stolen massive lads’ song. No doubt in large part thanks to the magedia and that mysterious cabal of businessmen.

Was thinking similar. Just the latest scramble for some form of identity. They should have a public vote on their official anthem. Just like they needed one for their official nickname (which I can’t recall anyone else needing to do, certainly not a ‘sleeping giant’ at least). Maybe if the rumours are true and we change our badge then they can change theirs to a similar style (again). Although should we get a shiny new state of the art 60 thousand seater stadium I’m not so sure they’ll be trying to match or beat that this time.

He’ll be on some sort of watch list now. -
What makes you think he's broon breed?
-
I remember them singing it at roker but they sang 'if you hate Newcastle/aye yi yippee' song far, far more which is pretty apt for them. Also remember them chanting 'Jackie is dead' from the main stand even though Milburn has been dead about a year at that point which was, of course, really classy by the classy fans.

anybody else watch the nations cup final the other night? been full of admiration for lots of our players over the years, but never once contemplated knocking up a little placard to hold aloft in the stands..... -
Nobody wants that, Andrew.
-
I'd love to print a map with Collingwood street and all the other places mentioned in it apart from Blaydon onto a brick and then cave his skull in with it.

The Cambridge and Oxford boat race is, I'll give you that one. As for football? The richest clubs, the ones with the richest owners usually did the best, even in the days of amateur football where a rich owner would employ a talented footballer at his mill or whatever, that's now been stopped by the clubs who've benefited from it in the past and don't want to overtaken by anyone else. The blue riband event in English football was always the cup, Liverpool didn't win their first until 1965, who would argue that Liverpool aren't one of the two biggest clubs in England right now? You have to have a chance to grow as a club and that is now being denied to other clubs who are ambitious and have the means to truly compete. -

Truth rarely matters in a historical MLF piece.
-
I've been to both roker park and their new place numerous times. I've seen them play at our place numerous times. I've never, not even once, heard them sing their iconic, globally recognised anthem either tunelessly or in perfect harmony. bizarre.
-
Quick clarification. Vernon Reid is not dead?
-
Every MLF knows that in 1956, frustrated by the mysterious cabal of Tyneside businessmen and their machinations of keeping Wearside down to boost Tyneside, Elvis Presley performed 'don't be cruel' as a plea to the MCTB to give Sunderland a break. From then on he was given the honorary title of the 'Memphis Marra'. True story.

Vernon Reid guitarist from 80s/90s rockers Living Colour...
-
Elvis starred in Blue Hawaii though, so that's close enough to blue pop for them to rightfully have a claim

Seems to be an awful lot of fake news being used by the Trump organisation to justify troops on the street in LA. Not sure how long before martial law is declared, given he is calling the rioters "insurrectionists". Australian Channel 9 female reporter apparently deliberately targetted by a copper with a rubber bullet. Sounds like they are happy to attack the press, as well. Not a good outlook for the US.
