Is it an Americanism? Genuine question. My grandparents used to say it all the time so have always assumed it’s traditional English - my nan wouldn’t even touch curry FFS it was ‘foreign muck’ so I do question the idea she used American English on a regular basis.

I fucking hate that particularly Americanism. It’s so obviously grammatical incorrect. in fact, I detest it almost as much as when they say “mhum” after you thank them. I thought I was being pied off when I first heard people use that weird noise instead of an old fashioned “you’re welcome”. It took multiple cases of it happening before I stopped taking it personally
